I agree a lot with what Bridgediver says about harnesses.
Oneshot you mention that you would like to be able to recover your gear. Well, I would much rather live for the day so that I would be able to recover on another day.

please read my last post. Obviously my gear isn't going to do me any good, if I have checked out and gone over to the other side! Besides, when I get there. I am going to ask for gills instead of wings

in training, I regularly get in and out of my gear underwater. Sometimes for training, sometimes to get through a really tight spot! :shocked2: (that's when that long hose really comes in handy) I just don't see a point, When I would want to be separated from my gear,(my
breathing apparatus). If I am already entangled, I definitely do not want to be separated from my gear, and then have the potential to be entangled again with the tether. The only time I could see the advantage of wearing a harness would be for comfort when I am lowered over a bridge or out of a helicopter. I carry a 30 ft.³ pony for bail out. It takes about 2 seconds to detach from my gear.
I realize this is not the way of most psd divers. I dive in a lot of different circles. I also take a lot from each one of those circles and use it to my advantage. What I struggle with is when any one circle says that this is the only way to do it. They all have their advantages and disadvantage. I simply choose to dive the technical gear configuration, because it makes the most sense and is the most versatile for the diving that I do.
PS , the county does not pay for our gear. We are volunteers and provide 98% of our own equipment. We had over 180 hours of training last year. We love to dive
