Hi everyone. My fiance and I will be heading on Sept 5 to Roatan for our honeymoon. We will be staying in Anthonys Key. I was wondering how is the weather during this time of the year. I have read many good reviews about this resort. Are there any negatives that we should expect? Also are there usually strong currents during this time of the year on this side of the island? :)

If there is no storm system around, the weather should be excellent but just like any other place in the world, things can change day to day.

There is almost never any current to speak of at any time of the year.

Anthony's is a very nice resort. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Thank you for the info..

yudi: Early September is historically most active period of the Caribbean & Gulf hurricane season, so keep the National Weather Service Hurricane page bookmarked and check it out before you leave.....other than that, normally the winter time NorthEasters don't roll through that early and the diving on the north side of the island is great.(even though I personally prefer the South side).......if a weather system moves in, the folks at Anthony's Key will go out of their way to move their boats to the Souith side so you don't loose any dive days----Anthony's Key runs a tight ship and provides excellent support to its diving guest so I am sure you will have a wonderful time

Cajuncru Diver thanks for the info. May I know why do you like the south side better than the north side? Thanks:D

Yudi: Just a matter of personal preference.......much more soft coral, sponges, Gorgonians, walls or more lush, less harsh due to the difference is sea conditions on the North side, lots of critters on the South side, Seahorse, banded coral shrimp, nudis, yellowhead jawfish, etc, etc.....North side you will generally see larger stuff...more large grouper, larger parrotfish, more turtles, etc.........so both sides offer wonderful opportunities and you are not disappointed whatever side you find yourself diving.....can't say one is better than the other just different in what you generally find.

And while the bay Islands have felt the effects of some storms lets not get worked up about hurricanes as it has been like 12 years since Roatan had to deal with its last hurricane, hurricane Mitch in 1998. They are not common

That's very true. Being from South Louisiana, we are much more in tune with the possibility of approaching hurricanes. It's not so much because we are afraid of getting hit in Roatan, but we have to worry about being away with our home unprotected if a storm hits Louisiana - AGAIN :shocked2:

Cajun, being from Florida I really doubt you are more in tune with approaching hurricanes, we have just recently gotten used to them approaching and passing but seriously, they are few and far between in the bay Islands.

Well we all know that weather could change from time to time and as divers there is nothing we can do to prevent them. Is part of nature. I would love to have great weather since is our honeymoon, but hey I know either way from the great reviews I have read that we will have a great time regardless. Thank you guys again.
