Dates? How flexible are you, on dates, departure airports, arrival airports?
Hey Don.
My dates are in October 2010 anywhere from the 21st to the 29th going and back November 2010 from maybe the 3rd to the 13th. That's the flexible part.
Departure airport, well LAX is just so very easy for us, less than 10 minutes and our neighbor is a taxi driver so he usually takes us. Santa Ana (John Wayne airport) is over an hour and with traffic, whoa, plus a taxi there is to much.:dontknow:
Ontario, I tried that airport once, but it is maybe 1.5 hours due to traffic.
Long Beach would work, but only Jet Blue and American seem to us that small airport.
I want to avoid the bag drag as it is my wife's first trip to COZ, so I'd want to go direct to COZ.
See ya at the BA

Ah, hurricane season, eh? NOPE! Hurricanes are rare enough in Coz that one could plan to go at the statistical peak without much concern altho I would want my trip insurance to cover the threat or at least to be in a flexible where I won't lose everything by canceling. Some packages are all or nothing, but airline tickets can be canceled with residual values to use later and hotels canceled with small penalties at the worst. If a storm is headed that way, both will often waive penalties for changes - but I like trip insurance myself. Put your state, age, and cost in that this site InsureMyTrip.com | Quote | Help and get a long list of choices and general comparisons. I use TravelSafe.com but there are other good ones as well as bad ones. For the sake of discussion of low risks tho, there are the stats for Coz & 'canes; for all of these thumbs of course, click to enlarge or right click to open in new tab....

I doubt that you'll find any bargains this far out as they tend to show up within 6 months of travel, but it's good to start looking 8 months out like this and set up fare alerts! You have an idea of how long you want to stay so pick out 6 or 8 pairs of dates, set up alerts to be sent to you each day, and get one email from Sidestep between midnight and 4am every night to review with all of them on one email. This is how I set up the searches at Sidestep.com to cover the dates desired, using 2 tabs to cover all of your dates. You might find it easier to use + 3 days on all and move your target dates over to fit, giving you more overlap dates - but this illustrates well and I don't want to do it over now that that occurred to me...

In some cases you will get a recent search graph, but some not as there just haven't been a lot of searches for those dates and city pairs...

Then click show matrix on both tabs to show not only the dates, but the airlines...

While I know that you want to fly Delta only, from LAX only to CZM only, on your date range only - the less flexible you are the less likely you will find a bargain. Really, $454 each RT including all taxes and fees is not bad and since you're shopping for 2, not 6 people, you might just want to keep it simple and buy. As long as you buy from Continental.com, you can still get some money back if the fares drop more than $50 within 30 days, or if you book thru Orbitz there is a small possibility that someone else might book the same dates and pairs at a lower fare and get you their refund - but realistically, this is a good fare compared to how much you might save if you wait and play. Last year's bargains were the result of the flu scare and if we don't see some other major factor, we may not see any big drops. Probly the only date pairs that will drop will be random dates when ticket sales just happen to be slow for particular planes.

OR, change hotels? As much as I like the BA, they are too small to be on Orbitz they say, while you could use Villa Blanca plus room upgrade to get your flights and hotel room combined for $104 more each: $557 for the entire week using coupon code 200entertain. An alternate idea. I think my home bud and I may try them next time, separate standard rooms, no snoring competition.

Hope you get some ideas from all that and do check my work for possible mistakes... :eyebrow:
