Mayan Princess Beach and Dive Resort
West Bay Beach, Roatan
Bay Island, Honduras.
I was at Mayan Princess Beach and Dive Resort for a one week dive vacation from Feb 1st to Feb 8th 2010. I had mainly chosen this resort for it’s dive center located at the resort.
First, some quick comments on the resort.
The resort’s grounds are beautifull, well maintained and my studio was beyond my expectations. Staff is efficient, always smiling and eager to please.
The only negative point would be the food … not that it was unedible, but I would give it an ¨ average ¨ note. And the ¨ A la carte ¨ restaurant is quite expensive : 36$US for lobster and 18$US for ceasar salad !!!
Enough said, let’s talk diving !!!!
Anja and Liber who are proud owners of the Mayan Divers dive center and their experienced DMs ( Carrie, Vera and Adrian ) have left no stones unturned to accommodate me for this memorable week of diving. During that week we only had 2 days of rough seas, so all the gears were packed on a bus and we went diving on the south side of the island.
During a nite dive, I witnessed something for the first time since I am diving : it’s called ¨string of pearls¨ . This is simply so amazing that I had to remind myself to breathe !!!
Here are the sites we visited, with max depth. Water temperature was 26oC for the whole week and the majority of them were wall dives.
- Herbie’s fantasy, 14,9 m.
- Sea Quest, 17,8 m.
- Mandy’s eel garden, 15,6 m.
- Blue chanel, 10,3 m.
- Fish den, 27,3 m.
- Melissa’s reef, 23,1 m.
- Willie’s wonder, 21,4 m.
- Willie’s wonder, 15,6 m. ( nite dive )
- Gibson’s bite, 35,6 m.
- Turtle crossing, 20,4 m.
- West end wall, 19,3 m.
- Keyhole, 27,3 m.
- Blue cave, 21,5 m.
- Eagle ray spots, 23,7 m.
- Marylin’s front porch, 20,4 m.
We saw green moray eels, green turtes, 1 manta ray, NO sharks !!! and all the usual Caribbean fish.
One funny thing: we saw 5 lionfish during the whole week and everybody seemed to be amazed by this fish …
Roatan is so far lucky not being invaded by lionfish !!!
Diving with Mayan Divers is very affordable, and I am looking forward to my returning very very soon.
