I am getting back into the sport of diving and wish to continue up into different types of Tech Diving, including wrech and deep dives. With that being said I have been looking at dive computers for the past few weeks and would like to hear from other more experienced divers on thier preferences. I think that I would prefer to go with a wrist mount as aposed to a console but again would like to know what you think. I have been leaning towards the Suunto Viper Air. Any opinions? :idk:

Have you selected an instructor yet? If so, perhaps you should ask your instructor to suggest a model or tell you what features are mandatory for the style of diving you will be trained to perform.

I have spoken to my instructor and he is the one that has pointed me towards the Suunto brand. I respect his advise, but would like to hear what other people think also. Just to trying to make an informed decision.

I've heard mixed reviews when it comes to the Vyper. Like any other piece of a equipment - buy more than you need - nitrox/multi-gas switching/etc. I dive a Dive Rite Nitek Plus and an Aeris Epic - both are awesome. There are plenty posts about this very topic - use the search function and do some reading. Plenty of resources online.

if Trimix is in your future a VR3, or Nitek X would be great, if not a Nitek Trio is a pretty damn awesome tech computer

Shearwater Predator.

Well, there is really only one computer that impresses me and that's the Liquivision X1
Liquivision

I don't have one but is I were even thinking about deco or voodoo gas diving, this is the one I would buy.

Meanwhile, back in the land of reality, I have a Dive Rite Nitek Duo for nitrox diving. It is a great computer and the new software is far better than the original. The new downloader USB driver is vastly improved.

I think of the Suunto Vyper as an adequate 'recreational' computer - like my Nitek. The difference is that I probably can't read the smaller display of the Vyper. At my age, I need large and bright displays. Even the Nitek isn't as bright as I would like.

That's why I want the X1. It is VERY BRIGHT!

My LDS owner has been in business for many years and I respect his knowledge. He said that out of all the computers he has sold many have benn sent back for repairs but not 1 Suunto. He says there bullet proff. I have a Suunto viper air and like it.

For tech diving you will struggle to beat a VR3, only down side ....$$$$$$.

Shearwater Predator.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough.

The new Shearwater is much cheaper than the "competition" VRx or Liquivision.

The numbers are easy to read. You can adjust your gradient factors.

It's a 5 gas OC or you can make it also a 5 gas CC computer. At $1350 Canadian for the fully unlocked CCR version, and only CAN$ 1145 for the OC Nitrox/Trimix version, it's a steal.
