Yeah, I'm lazy and very in-attentive if side tracked
You forgot self absorbed and... Just kidding. That's another problem of the condolences... it makes finding the meat of the discussion much harder to accomplish.

If not impossible. That has been the best thing ever - taking the condolences out of the A&I.

I've found this is one area that if the report button is hit or you start another thread in condolences the mods are quick to take care of moving the post to its correct thread. Especially Rick Murchison. There was way more name calling and nastiness when condolences were allowed in the A&I. If one tried to stick to A&I they were often labeled as thoughtless, uncaring, etc.

I wanted to give some thanks:

1. First, to DandyDon for bringing this up - it's been bothering me for a while now, too. Nice call!

2. Kudos to those of you on the recent death in the Galapagos thread, where the friend asked everyone to stop posting because it was upsetting: you folks were polite, but firm with this guy, explaining the reason for the forum (and reminding the rest of us at the same time).

Not sure which way SB should go on this one. Part of me would like to "hide it from the family & friends" somehow. But I keep remembering the thread on the death on the Bahamas (or maybe it was the Caymans, sorry) where we suddenly had new posters who had actually BEEN on the dive with the woman. Their contribution was invaluable. I thought the way the "Galapagos situation" was handled was excellent and maybe we need to try that for a while. We can't expect the mods to everything for us - not in this economy. :depressed:

Just my 2 cents,

Dive safe!
Trish

Ok, well - thanks for the discussion and support. So, in closing...
Leave the victims' name in the threads as taken from news accounts, and deal with survivors who post politely; and

Report the condolence posting so it can be moved...?
Start the Passing thread for the Mod and allow him/her to do so...??

It would be GREAT if someone created a "Passings" thread as early as possible (even the OP), and left a link pointing to it. Something along the lines of

Condolences can be left here=> (link to passings thread).

A couple of us have added this forum to our "watch list." Any help from other users will be appreciated as well. :)

Could a filter be used to screen out key condolences words used in the AI thread only like what is used in general for **** and ****?

Wasn't that discussed here already? Too messy.
