I'd also add something about physiology. I think it was NWGrateful diver that recently posted about an example he gives in class using trough/buckets. This could also expand to lay the groundwork for a future nitrox class.

Don't see too many changes yet, so I've added a few in wiki. Focus on life saving skills and repeat until they are automatic. Swimming skills are not nearly as important as being able to ditch your wts and inflating your BC.

Proper weighting and bouyancy control. Judging by some of the threads here, on other scuba formats, and what I've seen in diving this is an ongoing issue.

Emergency ascents. Why, when, and how. Simulated in the closed session and open water session.

As mentioned before - gear ditch at depth.

Unfortunately, my thoughts always go to making the basic open water course longer. I'm not an instructor just a consumer. But if you design or redesign a product don't forget that consumer input is important both pre and post course.

Just my two cents worth.

Absolutely. My aim is to see general consensus, but my hope is that the public will consider the length (and thus cost) of a course, and will consider any decision in light of a return to the student for their time and money in terms of skill, enjoyment, and safety

Also adding in something about gas planning/rock bottom.

Nitrox is often one area where people comment that it is really about 5 minutes of instruction. Should it be included?

The customers want shorter and cheaper.

Teaching it? Or just an overview that it's another option?
