Parrothead, that'd be awfully tempting, but I'd have to cancel my Coz plans to do that. Which, OBTW, Robin has me half talked into already. :eyebrow:
Can't wait to go back! :D

No problem....I love to go to Coz too....;) maybe another time....but if you change your mind we still have space open :D

Yes, no check out dives on saturday is annoying, but you can still snorkel the house reef. If you shoot photo/video, this can be a good thing as there is plenty to see in the shallows and you can test/practice with your camera/camcorder.

pm sent. :blinking:
Got it! Thanks, really thinking hard about this. My last trip to Coz was canceled -- it was scheduled for a few weeks after Wilma hit -- and I never got back to it until now. I haven't been back there in 20 years (long before I was a diver).

Cozumel is doing much better since Wilma, so we were told. Last week we did 8 boat dives. Some of the reefs looked decent, but some looked like this:

fishlife wasn't as abundant as before either. Some fish seem to have come back, we saw trunkfish and scorpionfish everywhere as well as stoplight parrotfish...... but we didn't see any trumpetfish or schools of fish other than schoolmasters. We only saw a few queen angels, too. They used to be everywhere.:depressed:
The shallower reefs seemed to be hit the hardest. Paradise Reef, which is one of the shallow ones, had lots of life on it but the reef itself was horrible. Only under ledges or in caves to you see colors.
Just my 2 cents.

I have been going to Cozumel since the 70's as a diver....I have been there after many hurricanes....yes Wilma has done damage but I love to go there Maracaibo and Columbia and Columbia Shallows are awesome....I just there the past Christmas and saw lots of fish life.....of course it was eagle ray season and I didn't see one:depressed: I am ready to go back...I would love to go in Aug and also at that time go over to Holbox and swim with the whalesharks....have to see hope the money is after CCV...;)

BTW anyone bid on the Beach House on ebay yet... see the details in my signature below....

Thanks for posting your Roatan trip report, I am late in commenting on it, but great info. Our local dive shop here in San Antonio is planning a trip in April 2010.
