Ok! the two boats were meant to remain at 40 feet for sport divers who do not want to venture to deep into the dark silty cold waters of lake Simcoe. The other boat will be dragged back up from the 60 foot level. There are plans to sink another larger 36ft foot Chris craft at 70 feet for all you teckies. We are also trying to relocate the old plane that we sank 15 years ago by the old dive club out on the lake and bring her also to BBP.

Are we talking about the two little fiberglass boats that where pretty much on top of each other? Cause i know of a Town Councilor who would love to know who sunk them there as well. In fact he would love to know who has be as he says "Polluting" the lakes with crap.

I really feel if you have plans for adding to the dive site or changing the way its been layed out by whom ever which is currently under a lot of scrutiny from the town to close the site down for divers in general, you might want to keep quite on it. But that is just my personal opinion.

Thats funny

Town council approved the sinking of the cruiser off centennial beach in 80 feet and the plane years back in conjunction with the dive clubs and even members of council were diving them. Dah. The two little boats have also been down for years they were just moved to Big Bay from another site. I think town council is more concerned about outboard motor oil, sink and toilet water dripping into the lake. It been 32 years now that divers have been diving Big bay point its a federal dock not controlled by the local council and there has never been any such talk of limiting diving its all gossip.

RoastBeef,

If you wish to disclose your real name we can maybe take it to town together here. However the Town of Inisfill has taken claim to the Dock, I was personally told by Councilman Davidson and now 3 different bylaw officers that the town has purchased the Dock and are responsible for it.

At this point Councilman Davidson is trying VERY hard to have bylaws passed that will make the parking area of Big Bay Point a "Resident Permit Parking" only area and all other vehicles which do not have the required town issued sticker to town residents only will be ticketed $30 or towed.

Also, Those two boats have not been in that water prior to showing up at BBP.. Unless you know some special place where there is no algae growth or Zebra muscles!

And if you dive Big Bay Point frequently you would know that any diver who does not want to dive in the Silt dark waters would want to stay below the 50 foot range.. As proven this weekend with the surging we had inches of visibility untill we got down past the thermalcline.

If you have approval paper work for the wrecks you put in... then please provide them as this wed is a council meeting to which Councilor Davison is infact looking for town support to approve the removal or limitation of divers in the area.

So if you are honesty still felling its gossip... You are truly wrong.

Well i can see this discussion is a waste of time going nowhere as usual. Nothing will ever change at Big Bay.

Putting your head in the sand does nothing... I agree with Michael: you need to COMMUNICATE with these people. It sounds as if one council man has a snorkel up his butt about something. I DOUBT that these divers are breaking any laws, but he has made the classic fallacy of assuming that not doing things his way is tantamount to breaking the law. Unreasonable people often elicit rudeness from mostly reasonable people when they start in with their demands. It's important that you don't let the unreasonable people railroad laws and requirements without the entire council hearing BOTH sides. Giving up and declaring it a waste of time will result in draconian measures being inflicted on divers.

The reality is that the town residents are complaining. however its for 2 months out of the year when the water is warm enough to go swimming in. That is pretty much it!

And they do have a point, the Town has purchased the dock, and if they have not the area that the dock is located at is town property. Town residents like myself can rarely get parking at that location which fits about 10 cars due to the fact shops from outside the area are flooding the area early in the morning and not leaving until early in the evening training students who are not residents, taking the location away from the use of the residence.

Its at a point now that if 1 resident complains about the lack of parking we need 10 divers giving workable suggestions to that issue, reassuring the town and the residence who are not aware of our side of the story and what we as divers are doing to ensure the location remains safe for there children to use for swimming or whatever the do.

I have spoken to the coucilor who is at his wits end and is now taking the steps he feels needed.

And some of the solutions he has are.

- Require dive shops or instructors to register with the town... at which point the town will then decide the schedule availible to the shops and they can run there courses around that. This giving the town the ability to ensure there are not 2-3 shops on the site with 20 students and 20 cars..
- he has suggested making the area "Resident Permit Parking" only during peek times. This would be the little sticker we ( residents ) get in our taxes which gives us access to all town properties that outsides are required to pay for, and gives us access to park in special "resident Permit Parking" areas. He suggestion was to try and give the are open access until something like 11am during weekends thus giving divers the chance to do there courses earlier and leaving the area open for residents during the prime time.
- another suggestion was to make people buy parking permits, Thus they have to register there vehicles with the town and when an issue is brought up they know who you are and how to contact you. And then allow Special permit parking during alloted hours..

Like i pointed out to him, reality is regulars use the site yearly.. town residence use it a couple of months a year and thats only if the weather has been nice! 9 out of 12 months of the year the parking area is rarely 1/2 full and that is your local divers who are there every week and the fishermen who are limited to the conditions and fishing seasons.

Are the divers not being an asset to the economy? Restaurants, etc?
