Can anyone tell me if it is good time to go to the Bay Islands, Honduras in August?
Do you recommend Roatan or Utila?

Ask me in September as im leaving for utila on the first of August and wont be back till the 31st.

seriously though as I have never been there (yet) i cant really confirm anything but i have heard that in August the noseeums are not as bad because the wind starts to pick up:storm:, the water is about as warm as it gets:mostlysunny:, rainfall is at a minimum and for the last two years there have been Orca pods :orca:(yes killer whales):dropmouth: spotted in August as well as multiple sites listing March-April and August-September, as the prime months for potential spotting a whale shark:uwphotographer::azvatar:. Captain Morgan's Dive Center reported conditions in Utila News as being: Hot & Dry - :goingdown:PERFECT Diving conditions!:cool2:. Sounds great to me!

Sure August is great, the diving is always great and cheap. And Henry Morgan is offering a 50% savings from like NOW to August 31st. And that is win win win situation. if this is your first time on the island, you'll find that Henry Morgan is one of top resorts there. On by the way, Henry Morgan is not the owners name, LOL

call 1-888-528-2823 that is the agency in Honduras that hooked me up

We have been having some great dives during the last two weeks around Utila, there have been whale shark and dolphin sightings as well as all the usual reef suspects!

You are going to get some great deals on both Utila and Roatan right now. I recommend you start emailing around - Utila has a reputation for good quality cheap diving and it is never going to get cheaper than it is now with all the politics that has been slowing tourism down.

The weather has been great for us and we have been to the north shore of Utila everyday for the last 10 days! This is where the Marine Protected Areas are and the big the drop offs into the Cayman's Trench as well as your best chance to see whale sharks.

Yesterday we did a trip to Cayos Cochinos (Cayos Cochinos) Marine Reserve and had some absolutely amazing dives as well as a beautiful day all capped off with an 30 minute encounter with a pod of some 200+ (estimated) Spinner Dolphins just off Utila on the return journey. We managed to get in and swim with them twice, they were very curious and probably done with their hunting for the day as it was around 5pm and they stopped and hung out with us. We also had them racing with the boat jumping and spinning as we carried on our way home!

Basically email around and see what you can find!

ANY TIME is a great time to dive Roatan, Utila or Guanaja. Come on down!!!

Hi Buddy,

I suggest you Utila. Good viz in august and a very good month to dive with wale sharks. Good value as well, compared to the more expensive Roatan.

Best regards, David Reumer

I'm glad to see that the so called crisis in Honduras has not run folks away from the bay islands. I also see that must of us that live here have thier favorite island or islands. But if you want the full package? It really determines what you are looking for. I have dove most to the bay Islands to include Cayos Cachinos. All are fantastic, but if you also want something to do while you SIT and after the night dive is completed.
Then the more expensive more populated island of Roatan is your best bet. I have dove Puerto Rice, Australia, and Hawaii. I choice those examples in my dive resume to say in comparison to Roatan, Roatan IS NOT EXPENSIVE. It is the more expensive of the bay Islands, but even at 40 bucks per dive with dive master, boat and gear Roatan is a great deal. Now if you're looking for outback, great diving, great rooms, great meals, laid back, boat dives then checkout my favorite, Plantation Beach Resort on Cayos Cachinos.
