I guess DandyDon must be out on his tractor. Look forward to his posts soon.

Exactly... That should take her until she is healed up... :)

Speaking of healing. I could not get an appointment with my clinic until next Thursday, and that is only so they can give me a consult to Ortho, so Ortho can give me a consult to therapy. I will be permanently disabled by then.

So, I have taken to flattening my hand and fingers under one of my 40 pound medical books. Works wonders!:D

You said you dived a wing, not a BC?

Don... wings are BC's. just a different type.

but just remember....
All wings are BC's
but not all BC's are wings. :D

It is a Dive Rite wing "type". It does not remove from the plate. Has integrated weight pockets only. Does not come with crotch strap.

the crotch strap does not come "standard" with the transpac. it's a seperate item you buy.

(actually on the Transpac, you buy it all sperate ala-carte, even though some dive shops sell it as a "package deal" with the harness, wing, tank straps, etc.)

Dive Rite also makes a more traditional BCD, or at least they used to, she may have one of those.

I have always just stuck my arm up when I ascended away. I think I will inflate my Sausage on SS to send up a few feet above me at least, but - the 15-20 foot of line may well be worth the trouble. Need to practice that.

thanks!

Don, if I'm smelling what you're stepping in here... I'd reconsider your approach. Using a SMB on a short line as a sort of ascent buffer is a rather bad idea for several reason:

  • You would need additional ballast to counter the buoyancy of the SMB
  • As you ascend, the SMB would become more buoyant and drag you to the surface, potentially putting you exactly in the middle of the scenario you are trying to avoid.
  • People will laugh at you

Put it on a spool and shoot it to the surface on your stop. You can use the line as a visual reference, the boats can see your position and you won't have to worry about getting drug to the surface.

Nope, I have the ala carte, wings, straps, backplate, weight pockets etc. It was cobbled together at a dive shop in Sacramento. That is why I never mess with taking anything off. I would never be able to get it back the same way.

Ala Carte - That means you should be able to add the crotch strap with no problems, thus putting the SMB and spool on your butt D-ring and being good to hook :D

I want that AVATAR now! Only mine needs to say "slippas" Hawaiian style!

Oh good lord...just noticed your avatar! The masses have now descended to my thread.

Oh behave!!:D

I didn't send the PM notice out, this time . . . .
