Can anyone tell me the current price for a cab from the Corpus Christi area (about 6 blocks from the main road) to Caleta Harbor. Last Christmas it was $9 US. Just wondering if it had changed.

Also, we will be diving with Advanced Divers July 31 - August 8. Anyone else diving with them during those dates?

The taxi rates have indeed changed fairly recently, though I don't know if the change was before Christmas '08. It used to be that there was one rate for 1-2 people and extra for the 3rd and 4th persons. Now it's what was the 4 person rate no matter whether it's 1, 2, 3, or 4 people - that's for sedans, which are supposed to carry 4 persons max. For vans, I believe it's make your best deal.

Yes, it changed early in the new year although for the life of me I can't recall what it was. I live just north of Corpus Christi boundary but think it wasn't much more than $15. Probably less.

I just returned from CZM.

Taxi rides to San Miguel from Presidente were 90 Pesos every day. The exchange rate is 13 -1 right now.

Taxi rides to the Airport from Presidente were 150 pesos.

So 8.50 or so to town from Presidente.

There is no way to quote taxi prices anymore. They seem to be making up their own prices as they go.

Not to Hi-jack the original question....but, can a person negotiate Van transportation for 4 persons to our Hotel for JUST the 4 of us? Or do the Turquoise Turkeys at the airport pack many as they can? Is there any other option other than the walk of shame outside airport property? What might the cost (Total) to Hotel Coz be? I ask this because we would like to make a couple of stops on the way to our Hotel in August.

Your only options will be to take the (usually full) airport shuttle and to hike out to the street (~100 yards) to catch a cab, and the schlep to the street can be risky because there are not always cabs out there. A cab will take you wherever you want, but the shuttle will only go to the hotels where its passengers are going. I believe that the Hotel Cozumel is in the same zone as Blue Angel, and that costs US$8 per person as of last May; a cab may be a little less.

What stops are you wanting to make on the way to the hotel? My advice would be to take the shuttle to HC, check into your room, and then go wherever it is that you wanted to stop on the way to the hotel as a separate trip. HC is very close to town; any errand that you want to run in town is a cheap cab ride or a fairly short walk away.

Generally speaking, they will quote a price that they think you're willing and able (by your appearance) to pay. But like sparky said, ask for the price sheet and always, always, always agree on a price before getting in. Once we got raped for a ride to the airport from Fiesta Americana for $30 usd and again a couple weeks ago for a ride from Chankanaab to Fiesta Americana. The guy at the park ushering the cabs over for people departing said it would be $6 usd but without confirming that with the driver he asked for $7 once we got to the hotel. Both times, my own fault so I really can't complain.

We always "schlep" put to the street. Taxis will not stop at the traffic circle, but you can cross the street to 65th. I've never waited more than a couple of of minutes, and I save enough for a night dive or a couple of good dinners.
