Best dives in Cozumel

Hi all,

I will be going to Cozumel in November and will only be able to dive for three days so I would like to make the most of that brief time and select some the most memorable dives. I have been doing some reading to choose which dives sound the most interesting and I am interested to hear from others. Thanks.

Well, I've only been there once, and I don't remember the names of all the sites we dove. But I would say one thing -- if you can pull it off at all, do a night dive. The night dives we did were the BEST! Octopus, lobsters, turtles, and a wide variety of fish we didn't see during the day. I would have dived every night, had it been possible.

Just know that the dive boats are not a taxi service. You can suggest sites to visit on boats that choose sites by consensus, but the majority rules and the DM can override the vote.

The good news is that you will not likely be disappointed no matter which sites you visit.

Unless you can afford to charter the boat & DM / Owner you're going where they think it's going to be a great dive on that particular day, and sometimes that doesn't even work out because when your boat arrives & finds a lot of others already there the DM / owner just might make a new dive plan. The majority of dives will more than be satisfactory if you haven't dove Coz before, no matter what site as long as the current co-operates.

Coz has no bad dive sites.Dove in Nov. and March some sites 3times. My favorite, probably santa rosa wall , palcar gardens ,dalia. You won't be dissapointed on any dive.

Cozumel diving is a blast! I don't know that there is a bad dive site there. The southern part of the island has the most prominent dive sites. Santa Rosa wall is great, the Planacar dive sites and Columbia all great.
Alot depends on the way the currents are the day you dive. The plan can change quickly if the current is going the wrong way.
I was there in February and this year we were able to visit a few sites that are not dived as often. San Juan reef in the northern part of the island was filled with a large variety of creatures and small coral. It can get pretty wild there. Also did Maracaibo on the southern end by the light house. That can be a pretty deep dive. However it is not quite what it was before the huricane a few years back.
But like I said, I like diving pretty much all of the sites.

We were there in September 2007. All the other posts are correct. We didn't have any bad dives. Some of the best were Palancar where we caught the coral spawn, Columbia, and Santa Rosa Wall. Our very favorite was our first night dive. We stayed at Scuba Club Cozumel, which has a great easy in and easy out set of steps. We assembled our gear and caught a taxi out front that took us to a small rocky beach next to a lighthouse where we geared up and entered the water just as it got good and dark. It was an easy 45 minute drift at about 35' back to Scuba Club which has great landmarks to find the exit point. We saw over a dozen octopus in the first 5 minutes along with lots of small skates and sand rays and so many small morays that at times they looked like a carpet of snakes swimming below us. You can't go wrong anywhere though.

I enjoyed all the dives done there recently but my most favourite was Columbia deep, because I like of the big pinnacles on the edge off the wall and Palancar gardens, also has pinnacles and then an extensive swimthrough. That place has really awesome landscaping.

Best bet, go with a small 6 pack/fast boat dive op...let your divemaster and captain choose the site for the day....if you have any input vote for dives 80 feet or less.

As mentioned, divers can suggest where they would like to dive, however, it is standard that the divemaster and captain have final say, which in my experience has never been wrong. Even if you end up diving a site you were just at the day before, it will be different....just go with the flow, relax, and no worries.
