I like having a snorkel on me when I dive... but I don't like it on my mask while diving..it get in the way of the inflator hose. I don't want to buy another snorkel like a foldin one ...so I heard someone say attach the traditional snorkel to your BC? or trap it in you Knife bungee on you leg? So how does the snorkel stay on your BC and will it most likey fall off if its on you leg while finning?

any other tips? thanks

This is an area where you have to excercise a bit of creativity. Find a place where it'll be out of your way, yet accessible when you need it and using velcro or elastic straps attach it there. If you do a decent job you shouldn't have a problem.

I attached mine to the mounting holes on the left side of my plate using velcro. Comes free with a tug, then I can clip it to my mask if needed. Otherwise, you'd be hard pressed to even notice it there under my wing.

Snorkles

It may be discontinued, but they show up on eBay.

When I dive in Laguna Beach, CA where snorkels are required I duct tape it to the back of my tank. Otherwise it stays home in a closet. I have no need to use one while underwater, and it's easier to breatheat the surface without one. I'll use it when I go snorkeling.

I take mine apart and put it in my pocket. It is pretty easy to twist it back together -- but, honestly, I don't like a snorkel so I don' t care!

I have a foldable snorkel (scubapro nexus), which I keep in my BCD as well. Attaching the clip can be done at the surface without too much hassle.

I find the car or better yet, the garden shed is the best storage location for my snorkel. It never interferes with my diving there and doesn't get lost.

I keep my snorkel on my mask where it belongs. I have a roll-up snorkel and I am thinking about adding a pocket to my BP/W but I haven't done it yet. Evolution is a slow process. That, and I use my snorkel on every single dive. Multiple times on every single dive.

It was predictable that this thread would devolve into not using a snorkel at all. But, one way or another, you need something in your mouth when floating at the surface. A regulator works just as well as a snorkel if you don't mind using up the air. I was reminded by a mouthfull of seawater this past Friday that I momentarily violated my rule #2 - keep something in your mouth!

I suppose there are places like small lakes and quarries where there isn't much water motion and little chance of getting a mouthful of water. But in my view, the ocean is not so kind.

My real comment is related to the knife position. It used to be common to strap it to the lower leg where it is out of reach when needed. Knives have now become much smaller and a lot cheaper since divers moved to a cut down Betty Crocker Steak Knife https://www.deepseasupply.com/index.php?product=54 Scissors are also popular. But the common theme is to move them to a location where they can ALWAYS be reached by either hand. The BP/W waist belt, slightly left of center is quite common. I have seen transverse mounts at a BCD cumberbund.

Wherever you decide to mount your snorkel, it needs to be quickly accessible and easily attached to the mask. I wonder if you could rig up something like a magnetic snorkel keeper. Similar to the Oceanic Octo Swiv with Magnetic Keeper Oceanic Worldwide - OCTO SWIV with MAGNETIC KEEPER Scuba Diving Regulator

There already exists a velcro snorkel keeper Oceanic Velcro Snorkel Lock | Snorkeling Equipment | Snorkel Gear from Snorkeling Online This may be a lot easier to deal with than a conventional keeper, particularly when wearing heavy gloves. I think I'll buy a couple of these and give them a try.

If you come up with a good storage solution, post it for others. There are a number of folks who would like to remove the snorkel from their masks.

Why ?! I prefer to have my mouth free so i can talk, eat, drink, sing or whatever.

Which is why a snorkel there is useless. Don't overweight yourself, inflate your jacket, float happily and high. If the waves are >10cm a plastic tube is useless anyway.
