If I had one day, I'd dive Ginnie. Or Paradise....but Paradise is much more likely to be silty and nasty.

I've always found Blue Grotto to be a nice dive But you are right, they aren't the friendliest people in the business and they are expensive.

They get $40.00 to dive because they see enough people are willing to pay it.

Bingo! They charge $40 because...they can! This is an aspect of business that bothers a lot of people. I've never quite understood why. "Why do they charge so much? They are so expensive". One of three things will always happen. They will either charge that much, people will pay, and they will make tons of money. Or, they will charge it, not enough people will pay it, and they will lower it. Or, they will charge it, not enough people will pay it, they will keep the rate the same, and go out of business...

roughly how far is each of these dive sites from Orlando?? I have to be in Orlando for a wedding this weekend and am trying to determine if I have time to fit in a dive. thanks

They are all between 1.5 and 2.5 hrs of Orlando. DD, BG and Paradise would be closest. Sorry I can't join you this weekend.

Hi,

This is great info for me. I am going on TDY in Orlando for 9 days starting tomorrow. I was planning on diving BG on Sunday...but now I need to look into DD and the others. This thread has helped me reorganize my attack strategy. :coffee: I can go two (or slightly more) hours in any direction. Suggestions would be wonderful!

Without hijacking this thread, are people diving BG (and the others) dry? I have the option (slightly a bit of pain) of bringing my dry suit, but I don't want to look like an alien invading the pool. :dork2: Live in Western NY and I don't even own a wet suit anymore. You do know what fish do in that water, don't you? LOL

If anybody is diving any of these places over the next 10 days, PM me and we could hook up. I am a 50 y/o Master Diver with 250 plus OW.

AcDriver:
I have seen people in everything from shortys to drysuits. The springs are generally 72 degrees and you being from NY will probably be fine is a wetsuit.
I recommend you go to Blue Grotto first (it is deeper) and then go to Devils Den across the street. These dives are so close to each other you could knock them both out in one day.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and wore a 3mm full. There were people there diving dry, with doubles. I believe they were doing a class.

That is kinda of expensive $75 for 2 dives. If you want to dive both sites Get a room at the Wilitson Inn or drive the 27 miles back to the interstate for nicer hotel's. :crafty: the total cost is about $130(figuring on Comfort Inn prices) ;)but we're talking two FULL days of diving and a hotel. :eyebrow:

. . . are people diving BG (and the others) dry? I have the option (slightly a bit of pain) of bringing my dry suit,

Last time I was at Blue Grotto, everyone was diving dry suits except me and 2 others. :coffee: we were all in 3/2's. so I would suggest you bring it. I hope this helps.

I live on the gulf coast and a very LOW gulf charter is $75.00 so I didnt even think about the cost of getting into two different dive sites.

I did my OW cert in these caverns (BG and DD) and they dont hold too much fascination for me any longer. This is why I suggested to do them both in a day so you can get out to another part of the state another day. In my opinion they are so close it isnt hardly worth a second trip just to do one.
