if it's any consolation, I would watch a movie with you, as long as there is at least one empty seat between us.)

Ah, yes, Bluto's third law: Two men shall never occupy neighboring chairs, or urinals, excepting when sufficiently intoxicated, or attending a baseball game.

That is one of the less obvious reasons to ignore somebody who begins a post by telling us how smart he thinks he is.;)

My Mommy told me I was smart.

Can we change to philosophy? If I'm negatively buoyant and solo diving so there is no one to see me, am I really silting it up?

(just trying to balance the curve...)

As long as they understand what they are really describing, probably not. My concern is that the terms in use may actually be a hindrance to some people. I've certainly come across folks who just didn't understand it. I've explained it to quite a few people.

I use the terms "density" and "weight" interchangeably :rofl3: At least I warn the science minded in the class before I do it.

PS here's a short story:

I got home from work and unlocked my girl's cage. I put her collar on, and she ran barefoot through the park, drooling as she went.

If I said "Dog" instead of "Girl", would I have been more easily understood? Point being: semantics don't matter, except when they do.

Some would have thought you were talking about me :dork2:

Depends on whether you need to turn around to exit the same way you came in!

:-)

The larger philosophical question is:

If a tree falls in the forest and Walter is not there to hear it, is it still your OW instructor's fault?

:eyebrow:

It is ALWAYS your OW instructor's fault!!!

OOOOHHHH... *philosophy*!!! ... try not to think of it as 'silting'... it's much more constructive to view it as simply 'increasing the ambient viscosity of the transport medium while at the same time reducing visual stimulus overload potential"... :rofl3:

Your OW instructor may be incompetent, but it's not likely his fault. You are both victims of the the way the world learns to dive.

LOVE the thread, b1gcountry . . .

So in accounting we have contra accounts, so might the answer be contra-bouyancy, balanced bouyancy, and inflated bouyancy? (I can't figure how to get debit/credit into the definition cycle.) Or does including the word "contra" bring in political references (Reaganism) and therefore banned on this forum?
