My husband and I will be in Cozumel the week of Novebmer 8-15, 2008. We have stayed at many places, but never at Hotel Cozumel. I have been reading some reviews -- some are less than favorable. Has anyone stayed at this hotel recently? If so, can they tell me about it? Thanks.

Cheryl and I stayed there last January and got certified by Dive Paridise. The hotel has great service and a really nice pool but you get what you pay for. We wanted to be close to town because it was Carival week and we walked in so no car rental. We enjoyed our stay and made the best of everything. The food is just OK and we ate breakfast everyday. You are close enough to town and you probably saved a little cash over the more expensive hotels so go out for dinner at some of the local resterants. It not the best on the island but it was nice for us. We will probably stay there for Carnival 2009

Where else have you stayed in Cozumel? If you stayed at, say, the Presidente, Cozumel Palace or any of the AI resorts on the south end then you might not be too happy with Hotel Cozumel. If you've stayed at places like Caribe Blue, Villablanca, Casa del Mar, or any of the other more budget minded places then it'll be fine.

I've only stayed at Hotel Cozumel once and it was right after Wilma when we didn't have many options. Location is fantastic and in my opinion that's really what you're paying for. Rooms are similar to what you'd get at a Holiday Inn, nothing fancy. The pool is really nice and the largest on the island, but the will be organized games and activities and music blasting through the speakers pretty much all afternoon, so keep that in mind when requesting a room location. (I would go for an "ocean view" room so at least you can get away from the pool noise on your own balcony.)

Don't bother with the AI package unless it's offered super cheap. You'll be about a 10 min walk from town.

Not too much to add to this but, wife daughter and I stayed there last June. I found the room quality to be about the same as the Fiesta Americana.
+ Close to town and the Chedrau (Walmart) store for supplies, within walking distance.
+ Several neraby dive ops with one on site-Dive Paradise
+ Suprisingly decent diving in front of the hotel, nothing spectacular but for $10 you cangrab a tank and cram an extra dive in.
+ Big pool and never an issue getting a lounge chair if so inclined
+ Friendly, attentive staff
- Hotel is showing it's age some, not run down but well-used
- Music from the pool entertainment Will be blasting until 10:00 every night. Request a room as far from the courtyard as possible. We asked to be moved after the first night and were unable to hear it from our new room, first night was unbearabl.
- Matresses harder than anything I have ever experienced before in a hote. We asked for foam pads but got blank stares from the staff. Wife saw stacks of them in the housekeeping storage closet so we "borrowed" a few.

That's about it. For what it's worth, I'm taking my daughter back diving again in November and will likely stay there again.

I stayed thre in January and am doing so again this January. For the price, it's a great place. The main item is the location - close enough to town to walk. Don't do the AI, there's too many good restaurants in town. With Dive Paradise across the street, what more do you need?

Larry,

Thanks for the pictures and review. My family and I are heading there this weekend, should arrive 2PM in Cozumel.

Your welcome. Wish I could join you. I woke up to a nice heavy frost this morning, so Cozumel is calling me back.

I'm taking my dive buddies camera, I'll write up a report and add pictures/videos. :) Hopefully I can make you feel as though you are there with me. :)

I've stayed there before and I'll be there again Nov 12-16. It's ok nothing fancy. I like that it's close to town so you don't have to eat there. I agree that the food is just ok.

I go to Cozumel to dive. If I were going down there just to hang out I'd probably stay elsewhere. As a dive hotel they fit the bill nicely. There's a dock so you can be picked up by a dive op.
