Hi Flightlead,
I just moved to Bloomington, IN, so I'm figuring out the regional diving, as well!

I dove Blue Springs Quarry today (in Waldron, IN... right off I74 from you). They got flooded in June, which introduced a lot of silt, and they are still recovering from that. That said, I enjoyed my dives today... you just gotta stay near the wall and above the thermocline (~25ft). Vis ~15-20, high 50's, just very silty.

Gilboa is in northern ohio... quite a drive, but I've heard that place is amazing. Also I found this place in a post somewhere... http://www.naturalspringsresort.com/scuba.html

Hope this helps,
Brett

Thanks Brett.

Cold and deep doesn't bother me, actually I quite like it :) Good vis is more than 10 feet. I was really hoping for something closer than gilboa though.

I am wondering if any of the lakes (natural or manmade) nr cincinnati are diveable, cumberland, ceasars creek etc.

You don't want to dive Caesar's Creek, the visibility is near zero and there are all kinds of entanglement hazards there. Joe's Falling Rock quarry isn't too far from Cincinnati, see the Kentucky Piranha Patrol section of the board for information and buddies. They would also be able to tell you about the diving in Lake Cumberland.

Natural Springs isn't bad in the fall and spring but visibility is horrid in the summer. Most of it is 15-18 feet deep, there is a trench in the back that goes to 25 feet or so.

The Great Lakes Wrecking Crew (GLWC) section is another good place to find buddies for Gilboa, Natural Springs or the quarries in Indiana. Gilboa is worth the drive, the GLWC is having a Meet-n-Greet there Oct 24-26. You should come up if you're in town, it's always a good time!

Some of our guys have been diving some local gravel pits. Visibility is usually bad (sometimes inches) but it's getting wet and exploring a new place :D

Come on, I'm sure the trench goes to 30 feet! I think I got 32' there once (ok, I buried my gauges . . . .)

If you're like a buddy for diving in the area feel free to PM me. I dive in the area pretty much year round. Two other good sources for buddies are the Great Lakes Wrecking Crew and Kentucky Piranha Patrol forums.

Other local options include Hidden Paradise and White Rock (St. Paul, IN), Phillip's Quarry (Muncie, IN) and France Park (Logansport, IN).

We have a few decent spots in the Cincinnati area.

Falling Rock Quarry: Lagrange KY
Gilboa: Ottowa OH By far the best around but it's a 3 hour drive. Not exactly close but worth the drive.
Blue Springs: Waldron IN

The shop I work at frequents all of these for certs. and fun diving. If you'd like, give us a call sometime and you can join one of our groups.

thanks to all for the info. solowgregg, what shop? I'll be in the Montgomery part of town.

So, who's up for some diving in November?

Deep, dark, and cold....my favorite :)

Gregg

I'll call or stop by when I get into town. What part of town is the shop? Are there any shops in town that have more of a tec customer base or that support/carry equip for/encourage local diving?

tks
