How long after a major surgery will a person be safe to dive??

Hmmm....must resist.

surgery? at least 6 weeks. I had gall bladder laparoscopy last June 16 08 and did not dive till Aug 23-24.

ps - don't believe what jag is saying:wink: and finally, there's no initiation into the group. We love the loco type, you'd easily fit in. (walang pikon po)

6 wks ba? not 6mons? But mine is major major. Appendectomy & Total bilateral hysterectomy all in one go. So, im being more careful. A diver instructor told me 6mons. & ive been crossing d days in my calendar..:depressed:
Ive started gym after 2 & a half mons, but am getting cramps inside, so i stopped for a wk. Started again this wk. So far so gud. But there r a lot that i still cant manage, esp when it comes to contracting my abs muscles for some simple routines that are sisiw b4.

@evie: buddy up with jag :D

Who is Jag? But im a newbie ha? Malikot pa underwater, kc i get soo excited when i see new things! But, i dnt panic naman.. grabe some experiences i had.. :dork2:

mga hayuf!

in fairness i'm much, much better with my air consumption now... last time we did basura i could have stayed longer...

just seemed like all the critters decided to take a vacation...

:lotsalove:

Jag

PS
evie: take caloy's advice on the post-surgery diving... he's our resident bionic man... he has a bionic heart, bionic gallbladder and also takes viagra for that bionic winky effect...

ika nga ng mga matatanda "sinagasaan ng tren, nakatayu pa rin"... idol yang si caloy...

Hi Jag! So parehas ba tayo matakaw sa hangin? hehehe.. Plus tagal na last dive ko! Dnt know how il be on d 1st dive again. Kainis!! grrrr....
All d gym instructors r telling me 6mons b4 i lift weights again. kasi nga ang laki ng hiwa. But, e2 pasaway talaga, so i started na. Have high tolerance sa pain, so mas delikado daw kasi, i might not take heed pag sumakit. But i always go by how i feel. So, il take it a tad lighter when there's cramps. we'll see...:)

6 weeks for me as per Doctors' orders:D (a Cardio, a Surgeon, an Internal Med Specialist,etc..).

do a search here on diving after a major surgery. My story - I had a heart attack in 2nd week of December 2006, Doctors put 2 stents in my woeful clog arteries, did some rehab, did gym (still doing), did a pool dive in Feb and did my first post-heart attack salt water dive in the first week of April 07(around four months).

and the Laparascopy procedure on my gall bladder in June 08........

ps - needed to cancel Sogod December 06 and Apo Island February 07 dive trips. For a while there in December 06 in my hospital bed, I thought it was the the end for me as far as diving was concerned.......no, not my movie career:rofl2:.

pps - your ab muscles will never be the same again, it only recovers up to 70 to 80% of pre-surgery strength. No matter how you try you can't get 100% recovery. Not myth, a medical fact.

stop being so melodramatic Caloy... you just wanted to extend your hospital stay to flirt with the nurses...:eyebrow:
