According to this definition, me and a buddy did a tech dive earlier this year. We swapped gear underwater which changed which gas we were breathing (I was breathing his and he was breathing mine) and we swapped regs at the same time.

Awesome. I'm a tech diver now!!!

Congradulations and welcome to the club! I am
quite familiar with the underwater gear switching
certification and me and my girlfriend practice it
as often as possible. It is definately technical.

I'm to the point that I can't tell whether or not you're joking, but...

I am quite familiar with the underwater gear switching certification

LOL. I would love to get myself an Underwater Gear Switching Diver card. How many more dollars must I put in? Can I add on an Underwater Condom Catheter Removal and Replacement specialty?

Huh? Not sure what you are referring to in relation to my posts? My take was on the activity and circumstances, not under which direction or governing body they are conducted

Ooops, sorry, my bad.

I was thinking about your statment that includes "salvage" and I thought I was a post that lumped PSD in with Tech Divers.

Don't know what I was thinking. :shocked2:

I think JeffG is secretly in love with HighFlowDiver.

Or vice versa. Anything to get his attention perhaps.

Yea..thats it.

Thanks for coming out an contributing with such an insightful response.

The UCCRand R specialty is not for the timid. Time
and time again I have seen grown men whine loudly
in pain as they attempt this delicate procedure.
Be forewarned.

highflowdiver:
The word is used all the time. Wouldn't it be nice if we
knew what the definition of the word is? Just to say,
well it is a generic word that means whatever you
want it to is kind of,,,useless.

I agree. The term is useless. The problem is people are not going to agree on a definition. Different agencies have different definitions, they are not going to agree.

Assume everyone did agree, what would it accomplish?

ucfdiver:
I'm still confused, WHY does the definition matter?

It doesn't.

JeffG:
Because with one word you can describe a different style/type of diving.

Nope, with one word you're lumping several different and unrelated styles/types of diving together.

Tomeck:
For me, the difference between tec and rec is not clear.

That's because there is no difference.

highflowdiver:
How could not defining a word that is used so much in what we do not
be positive?

Because it's not needed.

Let's try this - Recreational diving is defined as: No dives deeper than 130 feet, no dives with overhead inviornments and no planned decompression dives. Tech diving would be every other diving not fitting into this description.

Agreed with the above - or --------

All diving is technical diving. If man were ment to breathe underwater, they would have been given gills. Thusly man is put on artificial life support from the time he submerges to the time he again rises to the surface. Would that not constitute a definition of a technical & logistical problem or situation?

Have fun with it.

Yes I am and it facilitates communication with non-divers. So I believe that the definition/use of the word "Technical Diving" is a useful thing.
