Hi all!
My husband and I are visiting a couple times this summer (so many people getting married!) and figured we'd try out some of the great PNW diving I've been reading so much about. We're both originally from the area and moved to socal a couple years ago.
We'll be staying with his family in Steilacoom while we're up there and would like to get some (shore) diving in. The first weekend we'll be up there is going to be a quick one, so we figured we'd try out Titlow or Sunny Side (assuming we're not advised otherwise) since both places are close. That will be the weekend of July 26th, and unfortunately our only opportunity to dive will be Saturday morning. But at least we'll get that much!
We fly in the night before around 5pm. We'll have to get our bags and such, have the parents pick us up, "fight" with traffic to Tacoma/Steilacoom area, and hope one of the LDS is open for us to rent some tanks. Anyone know if any of the LDS are open later in the evening than 7pm? And if not, what are the odds that a non-certified person could rent the tanks for us? I'm guessing the odds are pretty much zero, but we're just trying to figure out how to maximize our dive time before the wedding. If we wait till they open at 9am, we'll only be able to get one dive in, and it would definitely be great if we could get two in. Also, is there any preference of dive shop over another? I saw two in Tacoma (Underwater Sports and Lighthouse Diving Center)...
Our next trip up (the weekend of August 17th) will be longer, so we should be able to get two days of diving in hopefully. Any "must dive" places around that you would recommend?
We are really looking forward to being back home....and can't wait to try out this new experience back in the PNW! Maybe we can meet some of you local divers!
