A new yoke O ring will take a few dives to get "seated" (meaning stuck) in the orifice. So if you blow one and replace it with a new one, and don't fully depressurize the reg, it will blow a lot easier than one that has some dives on it. The good news is, O rings are cheap and there's nothing wrong with having a new one every dive. :D

Do you do that silly blow-on-my-first-stage-with-the-tank thing when you take off the reg? That can dislodge an O ring, too.

And DIN O rings do sometimes come out, too, and are left behind in the valve opening, but not as often.

my 1st stage is enviromentally sealed so its not necessary (or so I was told).

Thanks for all the prompt informed reply's people!

I don't know about your area, but here they aren't "blowing on the first stage". They are blowing water off the dust cap before replacing it on the first stage. Still not necessary but not as strange.

Around here I see quite a number of people who try to blow drops of water into their first stage. ;) I imagine they saw someone blowing off the dust cap and just didn't look closely, assuming the first stage was being "dried" and not the dust cap.

Once the tank is turned off press and hold down a 2nd stage purge, keep pressing the purge and unscrew the first stage whilst the purge is depressed.......no more lost tank o rings.
