We have been making some hard decisions about where and when we teach our cave, cavern, sidemount and rebreather students--based entirely on local fuel prices. Have you changed your driving and diving habits based on skyrocketing gasoline prices?

Yeah, the freaking air fare "fuel" surcharges are worth about as much as 3 days of diving! Very annoying. I could, of course, just walk the 500 yards to the local dive site, but I prefer tropical waters to the frigid Sydney winter diving scene.

Z..

Well, some of us here have taken to carpooling, especially myself, even though I am only about a 15 minute drive from most of the local dive sites. Fuel prices here are nuts, we're paying roughly $1.30 per liter... that works out to roughly $5.20 a gallon.

On the upside we're lucky here in North Eastern Alberta. Where I live I am surrounded by lakes. If I were to draw a circle representing an hour's drive from where i live there are litterally dozens of dive sites. We have 150+ lakes in the region...although I use that term loosely for some of them. :rofl3:

Fact remains, fuel prices ARE affecting how and when we dive and have courses here. Pretty sad considering that one of North America's richest oil deposits is about 4 hours drive from my front door...

Actually it has affected my walking more. I walk more than I did about 6 months ago (and I get 70 mpg in my Dr. Bill Mobile). I try to only use the golf cart when I need to carry my dive gear or heavy groceries. That's a good result of high gas prices... I've lost some weight! As for international travel... it sure has affected my dive trip plans.

enjoy while you can... european gas prices are even higher...

Thats why I live in the US.
Whats next everyone on welfare and 50% taxes?
Socialism is crap.
I think I will keep my sailboat a little while longer incase things get too bad.

Umm..yeah, its affected diving. I'm at 2 whole dives this year off of one boat trip instead of a whole lot more. Futures prices went up this past month so next month will be even tighter.

It actually has me thinking its time to get my own compressor and a smaller boat to get around to the near shore stuff here. I don't need to dive deep, but I want to dive somewhere, ya know!

Yes, gas is cost is cutting into the diving funds.
Also when diving we are staying on the closer wrecks.
When you spend $9 a day just to get to work and back....

Yes gas is more expensive in Europe, however they can walk just about everywhere they need. In the US everything is spread out far. I can't walk, to the store, it would talk all day.

I have been carpooling to work and saving the gas for the beach. I love diving from a boat but the costs have gone up to cover the gas and I can't pay those prices at this time. So yes the price of gas has affected my diving.
