The Kunkels were good to check me in and grab me a spot across from them. The evenings were really cool and the days were pleasantly warm. Awesome camping weather. There was one (at least) too friendly raccoon. Plenty of food, and fantastic company. Our kids get along very well. Deirdre really took to Ryan.

The park is really very nice. The shower and restroom facilities are nicely spaced and reasonably clean. Expecially for the use they get. The camp sites are decent with a nice tent pad that is clean and flat. The lake is spring fed with a max depth in the 30 foot range. Bottom temp stays in the mid to upper 50's. This weekend the thermal was at 18'. The park ranger said this was normal. The lake was also about 2-3 feet high. The surface temp was low to mid 70's.

The vis sucked, and that's being nice about it.

All of the activities were well done. I would have liked to have known about no scuba divers being allowed on the snorkel hunt before hand but that was no biggie.

I won the compass run. It was an out and back and I missed the start point by 5 feet.

Scuba Steve's puts on a great event for a great cause. Lot's of fun and really worth it. Saw some people I hadn't seen in awhile and met some new ones.

Thanks everyone!

sounds like fun; i am soon to be in atlanta texas and am looking for some nearby location to scuba with half decent vis and no need for a dry suit.

My son and I only got out there on Sunday. you are right about the vis, but we still had a good time. Its kind of hard to find trash on the trash dive when you can barely see your hand in front of your face. but it was alot of fun and for a good cause

Kory and I also had a great time at the trashfest. Scuba Steve's did a very nice job with the activities, everyone had a lot of fun! We took our two boys, and they had a good time doing a snorkel trash pick-up, and snorkel treasure hunt. The dm's in the water were very good with them, and made sure they were safe, and had a good time too. Even though we could barely see each other, or our gauges, we had fun on the nighttime treasure hunt. We still managed to luck into finding 3 floats, TwoBit found 3 also, and shared one with us.

Met some new, very nice people, and had a great time visiting with TwoBit and his family! The kids did get along really well, and had a good time together. Ryan thought Deirdre was cute, and he thinks her stories are funny. :D We are already planning to go back next year!

Hi UB... I'm glad you're only looking for half-decent vis, 'cause that's all you're gonna find in the Atlanta area. I see you're from Texas, where do you usually dive? The nearest place to dive from Atlanta will be Lake Pirkey, close to Marshall. Well, the more I think about it, Murkey Pirkey doesn't have half-decent vis... (sorry Tony, but it's true!) Its' best claim to fame is being a power-plant lake, and warmer in the wintertime when the generators are running. You can drive a little further west and go to Tyler State Park, which can be a fun dive, and occasionally has half-decent vis- this time of year should be a pretty good bet. In order to dive Clear Springs, you will need to go even further west to Terrell (I-20), probably a couple of hours from Atlanta, possibly further. Are you just visiting there or putting down roots?

I grew up close to the park, and have loved it since I was a girl. It is really pretty, isn't it? And yes, the vis sucks. There are those magical times when it clears up and you have the lake to yourself, however... There are some huge fish in there. I'm so glad you enjoyed the event. SS is great at the organization and attitude that they put forth to host this huge event. Sorry I had to miss it this year, but I'm glad you got to go!!

hey TwoBit
that was use in the orange BCs. Glad to know I finally met a TSD. I knew there had to be a Texas Swamp Diver or 2 there but figured if I hollered out "are there any TSD's here " people would probably think I was strange. Not that that would be a first. We almost met up with Timeliner and Foo a couple of years ago out at Tyler. When we got down to the platform that day, I'm pretty sure they were there, but by time we got out of the water they weren't around so never did really get to meet them. Oh well one day we will.
So does this mean that I can be an official TSD member or do I actually have to dive with one of them, which I will eventually?
Anyway I enjoyed Sunday and meeting you

Like CSSP, or TSP, Daingerfeild State park (20 miles), has good and bad days, but I've see up to 30ft. viz in Murky Perkey.... we were diving off the boat near the dam in 65 ft. and you could see the bottom from 30 ffw. Last summer Frank and I had about 5 ft. but it had rained a bunch. It might have been Franks weight system too, think it still had a bit of mud on the asphalt. :D

Thanks to all of the Swampdivers who came out and joined us this past weekend. I should have written a thanks sooner but, sadly, I have been busy packing for Cozumel... Sucks to be me I know... We really did have a good time and it was great finally seeing the Kunk gang and twobit and Miller and yes you can officially say you are a Swampdiver all at once and FYI dont challenge the Kunk boys in swimming... They will beat you... and it was sad I had to skip on RK's brownies because now I can wear my itsy-bitsy yellow polka dotted bikini... Ok it's an image no one needs especially those who met me this weekend... Donna and I hope to make several more TSD events this year including our first trip to Murray when ya'll go...

On behalf of chucksaul, mdpii, beachbumnurse, twinkles and all of us at Scuba Steve's, thanks to all who came and had fun and for those who didn't, remember there is next year...
