Welcome to the board.

The general rule for when to grease an Oring is pretty simple. If the Oring slides past another surface when it is being placed in service then it should be greased. If the Oring is simply compressed between 2 surfaces (like tank valve to reg) then it does not need to be greased.

Mickey,

For the most part Herman is correct; but we recommend a VERY light greasing of the o-ring to help maintain the o-ring life. (as long as you're using an aluminum tank)

Considering the life of a tank valve oring is pretty hard and short and the increased likelyhood of the grease holding dirt, does it really make sence to grease a tank oring just to increase it's life? Esp considering they are only a few cents apiece. On other static Orings like camera housing I agree but not on a tank valve.

Like I said, you are correct Herman. Unfortunately not everyone takes care of their gear, and the lube will help the valve not to seize in the tank. I've never seen a tank o-ring be visible enough to take on dirt.

Ahhh, I think we are talking about different O rings. I mean the small Oring between the regulator (yoke type) and the tank valve. The valve to tank Oring I agree needs lube.

LOL. . . I'm assuming he's asking about the EAS or RAS system. There is no other o-ring visible to speak about! :blinking:

Helping the valve not seize in the tank is accomplished by lubing the valve before inserting it into the threads on an aluminum tank. This should be done with O2 compatible grease or silicone grease depending on the tanks use. This keeps a film between the two dissimilar metals. I don't grease the o-ring specifically, but some grease is bound to get on it. I personally use O2 grease on pretty much everything and never use silicone grease on tanks or regs, but that's just a preference.

The o-ring between the tank and regulator I do not grease since it's a static o-ring and the squeeze make the seal.

Mat.

thanks everyone..I have the Eas2 and the o ring in question is the black one that sits at the top of the tank & is between the tank & the reg

I will very lightly put some grease on it...should I use o ring grease that is used on UW photo o rings?
