Minds are like parachutes, jag....I think hanna is being respectful in her view points.
hey don't get me wrong... so am i...

it's just that hanna and i can argue this thing online till the cows come home but it won't solve anything...

i had said that there are more pressing issues that her drive will definitely benefit from...

and if she can get her home resort to go fixed rate and it works along her proposed models then great! it might work and i may be wrong and it just might change the way biz is done in anilao... i'm just very cynical to large scale upheavals and overnight solutions... i can't give societies that much credit

is it the special olympics thing?

@hanna: not calling you a retard...

i'm not calling hanna a retard... it's just that it's pointless to prolong the argument...

now i'm being defensive... a sure sign that this has deteriorated into a bigger waste of time... :banghead:

now... where's the latest dir thread...

I agree..... arguing this on line is pointless.... Well all I can do for now is just enjoy the low prices of Anilao and just think to myself about the many possibilities (missed opportunities) that the future holds for Anilao.

Meanwhile, I will just silently wish that Anilao realizes that it can do a lot more for itself and make a real name for itself in the Tourism World as the first choice of dive destination in the Philippines.
Maybe someday.

the simple answer is this. most anilao/mabini resorts cater to manila based filipino divers that want to dive at the cheapest possible price. many if not all of these manila based divers will not pay or cannot afford to pay the rates PG/bohol/etc. operators charge. the number of lonely divers is too few to change the current charging system and risk losing the majority of the manila based divers that are the regular customers now.

I see. So it is really a choice of Anilao resorts to keep the Manila divers happy and indirectly send the other divers who are willing to pay more (read as: prefer fixed un-confusing rates) to other places. I understand. But cannot comprehend how resorts can actually let those opportunities go. Oh well... its their business not mine. I will now just enjoy the low rates. Yahooooo!

But I have to disagree about the number of lonely divers being too few. First off... lets not call them lonely divers. Lets just call them "divers not yet in the loop".... uh... fine..... Lonely Divers. There are a lot of them. PG, Bohol, Malapascua has lots of them everyday. I agree there are few in Anilao..... why kaya??????

Its not that they make it a choice to send the lonely divers away. Its just that the current charging system benefits majority of their current customers. There are actually resorts who will take the extra effort to arrange something for single guests, they could sometimes arrange for you to dive with freelance dive pros who frequent their resorts.

Its not that they let the opportunity go, its just that the unique selling proposition of anilao to majority of their customers is affordable diving (vs pg/bohol/etc.) through a unique charging system that doesn't let them profit from the diving but from the food and accommodations. It brings down diving cost for juan de la cruz, provides income to locals and they make a bit of income when juan orders the grilled porkchops and a san mig light. A sustainable business model that benefits majority but not all.

And this is actually not unique to anilao, cebu, davao, dumaguete has similar arrangements (back door affordable diving), its just that in those places its not the norm. But if you can get connected with the right local groups in those places you can dive apo island, balicasag, pescador, kaceres, moalboal at rates that may even beat anilao.

ILonely Divers. There are a lot of them. PG, Bohol, Malapascua has lots of them everyday. I agree there are few in Anilao..... why kaya??????

Yup and 95% of them are foreigners. Again you have to look at it from the perspective of the anilao clientele, the target market. Manila based filipino divers who cannot pay or will not pay the amount per dive most of these foreigners can afford.

Ok. Gotcha. I get it now... Most Anilao resorts would rather have Manila divers who dive on weekends only... While the rest of the country prefer to have foreign guests (on top of local divers) who are willing to pay more and who come and dive weekends and weekdays as well. There must be a way for Anilao resorts to merge the two target markets. Hmmmmmmmmm..... maybe Anilao resorts know something that I don't or cannot understand. Then again.... what does it matter to me... as far as I am concerned I am enjoying the low cost of diving in Anilao.

Anyway... I am no longer curious as to why Anilao rates are such. We can consider this matter closed.... unless someone else is curious.

Back to lurking mode........ See you folks underwater soon!!!!!
