Not that important if you feel comfortable with the stock ones.
If your jaw gets fatigued like mine in cold water then it might be a good idea.
Mine moulds to the shape of my teeth so it sits in my mouth with no muscular effort.

I find mine WAY more comfortable than the stock ones. I'd guess that a custom one would last longer, or at least I hope that they do. I've seen people bite right through the stock type over time.

Thats just poor technique, you shouldn't bite, just hold.

I got a Seacure mouthpiece and have to say that it is AMAZINGLY better than the standard mouthpiece I had on before. There is very little, if any, jaw fatigue. The size of it allows the regulator weight to be spread over more teeth - which means you are not biting as hard.

I highly recommend... maybe the best $45 piece of gear I have ever purchased.

I don't use a custom mouthpiece but I'm looking into MiFlex hoses, there are a couple of threads on the board, to take pressure off of my present mouthpiece. A less stiff hose should help, at least that is what I'm hoping.

Hey everyone... I bought a custom mouth piece and will never dive without one again! I feel much more comfortable and in control. That being said make sure your buddy knows your equipment!!! This is because custom mouthpieces may prevent your buddy from breathing off your primary (which regardless as to what you think of as an octo, they might go for when they are in need of air). Especially if your buddy is significantly smaller, and the mouthpiece will not fit them, it could become dangerous if they are not familiar with your equipment. Hope that makes sense and sorry it is poorly written...

In conclusion, get a custom mouthpiece, you won't regret it, just make sure you have a reliable octo and your buddy knows where it is!

Sea-Cure Mouthpiece . . .

i actually recommend the Mares one over the sea cure, my seacure lasted about a year before it fell apart, my mares one is still going strong after 2 years now.

(i go through regular mouth pieces in about a month..) :D

Wow, Mike . . .

I've been using my Sea-Cure for about 5 years, but then again, I may not dive as much as you.
