OK, I didn't bother to read 49 pages of this thread -- the first page was enough. These complaints about "free-speech" burn my buttocks. Here's what the air-heads who think they should be able to say or do whatever they want in someone else's house -- LEAVE -- NOW.
Would you let someone set up in your front yard to promote an ideology you opposed? Let's say you support a Democrat for president. Would you let a Republican stand in your front yard and talk about how bad the Democratic candidate is? Of course you wouldn't, so you're nothing but a bunch of whining hypocrites.
This is not your house. You have not paid to be here. The values of this site are the values of the owner and those are the only values that matter. Don't like them? Hit the road and don't let the door hit you in the buttocks. Spend the money to start your own site then you can run it the way you want to.

it is funny how I thought of this thread while at a Christmas party. You have the people that are sucking up to the owner, the ones that stay so far away from the owner , and the ones in the middle. I feel like I am the one that brings all the groups together. Although, that is not appreciated by all. The atmosphere at the party was good...but I am sure others that were at the same party would disagree with me.
They had Santa come to bring us bonus checks. As I sat on his lap I asked him if we could just talk about whatever comes up. Not all would appreciate that. Luckily, Santa was cool.

A perfect example of handling adult humor in a tasteful way ... it can be appropriate or completely tasteless, depending on our choices. If everyone made mature choices, we wouldn't need this thread ... and we'd all be able to enjoy more freedom of expression ...

that's still no excuse to treat everyone as children
that's the basic problem here: the TOS and how it is enforced results in all of us (all of us) being treated as children because of a few who do continually misbehave
i really resent that
trying to be succinct: set out a realistic set of expectations and enforce them. adults who are treated as such and know the consequences of their actions have no excuse to act as children. if they insist, they continually get banned.
two things are needed:
1. a realistic set of expectations, not the current constant nit-picky over- moderation of every single post lest we say something harsher than "gosh darn it"; and
2. real consequences. once we are all allowed to be real adults instead of being treated like wards of the Board, you step out of line, the man comes and takes you away

I must have misunderstood. Is this your house? Or did you just decide to appoint yourself as the voluneteer bouncer?
This board has changed quite a bit over the last 6 years. Some of that change was motivated by threads like this. This board has become a business. Busnisses that do what they can to accomodate customers' wants and needs do better than those that are quick to say" don't let the door hit you in the ass".

Anyone notice this thread is up to 51 pages and counting in under a week? Not entirely sure that everyone will agree with everybody when all is said and done. I just get that gut feeling....
