So far there has been response from the ruling class indicating they are aware of it. It appears the only issue they have addressed was the off topic anonymous poster complaint by several people and it was disabled.
This thread is being read by NetDoc, the Advisors and other staff members.

But (possible) policy changes are not implemented overnight.

Hmmm, while I may use "cuss words" - aka farm talk or Marine talk a lot in person, depending on whom I am with, they do seem to have a deeper impact printed for the world to see. I just don't see the any need for them here usually, and they would give the board a different, perhaps unsavory look - repelling many, I think.

Now I grew up in a time & place with hell and damn being cuss words, but seem more interchangeable with heck and dang now. At times I do want to use the S-word, but do okay substituting caca or crap for the same communication. The F-word or eFenn is just too much for print to me.

Bitch is such an insult to most, I'd hate to see it allowed - surprised it wasn't filtered. I use it on my home dive buddy maybe, and he on me - but that's it. Bastard and SOB are a couple I never use.

I'm still wondering about Cathorine's reference to the auto flip? Around here we often wave an each other on the road with one index finger raised like one might use at a meeting or auction. I wonder if they could be seen as a flip in some places?

Disagree. How many people are popping in throughout each day vs occasionally or sporadically? I suspect the majority is the latter and what are the chances of them seeing this issue and contributing, in particular, being in the majority.

IMO, disagreed with is acceptable but ignored is not.

I'm not sure I am following you. Are you saying the thread still is useful in that someone might come by and have an opinion they'd like to express? I don't think anyone said to close the thread, just that it had gone about as far as it can on the subject the OP made (and the various offshoots).

Are you waiting for input from SB management on the variety of issues that have been brought up here? I doubt they would post that here, as this is for feedback from members. I would expect a new and separate post from them with any changes in policy or reaction to the ideas brought forward.

And I seriously doubt this thread is being ignored by them.

The ability to employ eloquent profanity doesn't demand its use in general conversation. Even though quality communication without it does take a bit more effort than the common tongue, and is to a large degree becomming a lost art, taking the time and effort to form your thoughts without resorting to vulgarities does have the distinct advantage of giving the appearance of civility and respect for your audience, even if you have neither.
:)

Something I think that you need to get over is that "your view" isn't the be all and end all here. Others have views too - and quite a few who have had them on this board a good bit longer than you have been around, AND given a lot to the board.

Equally "you need to get over" the fact that I will state my view even if it disagrees with yours and Andys. Or you suggesting because you and Andy are demoted moderators who have been around longer than everyone else then your views are worth more? That's the clear implication behind your assertion

I can quite honestly state I have no axe to grind on this Kim. Can you and Andy say the same?

So far we've had over 5000 views, 300 posts, from around 60 people. It's fairly obvious that this isn't a non-issue. It's also fairly obvious what most people think.

The vocal minority, one could say. I see around a dozen people calling for changes, and a few disagreeing. As a percentage of the vast membership of SB one could easily assert the majority are happy enough with the way it is.

No one is advocating that cussing be allowed in the main SB forums. They are only asking for a separate opt-in forum where that is allowed along with a little more freedom as to subject matter.

Separate software filters for the Opt in forum? Wouldn't it be nice if members did not need Mod oversight?

I have no opinion on subject matter of a forum I've never visited other than previously stated opposition to bikini model pics lifted from the web.

Again, I would like to thank all of our users who have spent their valuable time to remark in this thread. Your input is just as valuable to us as we try to discern the best direction to take in regards to our future role in our moderation of this Forum.

Yes, we are in the middle of discussions which will lead to a revised ToS and Mission statement. More than ever, we want to hear from EVERYONE, especially those who feel disenfranchised.

Absolutely not. Of course you are entitled to your view, but it might help if you expressed it without trying to belittle others as your personal crack at Andy demonstrated.

As for how long someone has been on the board - that is indicative only of how much about the situation they might understand or not. As I believe I said quite clearly in my first post in this thread, this argument/discussion/request...however you describe it....has been going on for a VERY long time - at least since I became a member here, and maybe before that as well for all I know. I've seen a great many good people simply leave because of it, and if things remain the same I fully expect that gradually more will follow. I do think that it could be made clear where the management stands on this issue once and for all though. Then we don't have to have more threads like this and people can decide whether what is on offer is for them or not.
The fact is that threads like this continue to spring up because somewhere people DO believe that they might be listened to, and have a chance to get changes made. They won't always be agreed with though, or their requests acted upon. I believe it's fair though to ask for a definitive comment/decision on an issue like this so that everyone knows where they stand, and whether it's actually worth asking, or just a waste of time.

Meanwhile, your opinion is worth the same as mine or anyone else's, although I might occasionally (and Andy too) use examples that occurred before you were a member and therefore have no knowledge of - that's all.

Actually it's not necessary. Just join the deco stop. Language is not an issue for censor over there unless it's a personal attack and even some of them are cool as long as the person deserves it. WHen I want to really express myself in ways that are similar to what I hear on the job I just go over there. But it's understood that if you are the sensitive type it's probably not the site for you. As to the military, it's not reserved for the Marines. My son just completed SERE school for the Air Force and what he was describing to me about it was as much fun as the way he told it. "It" really is an adjective. ANd after what he went thru(what he was allowed to tell me anyway, alot of it was classified) perfectly acceptable.
