I'm not a cave diver so I don't know what kind of anchor you might bring to a cave dive. I just know I never took an anchor on an open water dive.

I can't think of any reason to take an anchor into a cave --and cave training very specifically requires a reel to open water, not an anchor line. In fact, any line other than a cave reel would be highly inappropriate.

However, if IADRS requested cave recovery specialists, they probably had a good reason.

I don't want to speculate any further about this --I suspect there is a lot more to learn.

Last night the International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists (International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists) was requested to assist in the rescue/recovery of three divers missing in a cave in Mexico. The call for assistance was referred to Neal Watson since the IADRS does not specialize in "cave" rescue/recovery; the International Underwater Cave Rescue and Recovery Team does.

I have scanned news sources this morning and I am unable to locate anything online. Does anyone know any of the pertinent details?

AFAIK, many caves in Mexico lead to openings just off the coast. That could explain the confusion. After all, what good would search helicopters be in a cave diving search unless the entrance was in a very remote location. I wouldn't expect a class of 20 people to go to that remote of a location though.

No, there were no caves involved. There aren't any at that location. I'm sorry to report that they found all three bodies. The groups were doing a deep diver course and I've heard that those who got separated went too deep (reports vary from 150-250 feet), got narced and ran out of air. None of the english language papers will report this news however ... since it's bad for tourism. It was a brand new diving company as well.
