So... OTS is coming out with a version of the Atmosphere but with colored skirts? :eyebrow:

(sorry Bill, couldn't resist... :D)

Nope, looks like this one is designed for diving... :crafty:

Yeah, I've heard this explanation but thats not really what I'm refering to... The effort of drawing air through the vent, around the mask and throught the nose pocket check valves will increase WOB vs directly through the nose/mouth pocket itself. This is what I meant by increased CO2.
Is it a huge difference? Obviously not much...
Also, hearing the diver talk on the surface (without comms) is a bit easier -- in case anyone is ever interested in what he'd have to say anyway:D

You can don the mask without the reg installed, take the time to get it fitted and adjusted, then insert the second stage when you're ready to dive. Once the regulator is installed though, you have to take the mask off to remove it. You can talk through the regulator port when it's not installed. This is fine prior to the dive, doesn't help at the end of the dive. You're mask will fog when you do this, no air venting across the visor.

Or we could just use the vent on the front... Backup divers couldn't have the reg off and still be ready so this is why we have these vents (side or front) in the first place right?

Not my intention to debate which vent is better. We use the front mount and all I wanted to know was if this mask would be compatable with that. I'm not worried about minimal mask fogging in an environment where we usually can't see anything anyway so the clearing ability isn't a factor that I would place much emphasis on

YMMV

It actually takes only about the same amount of time to jam your reg in its port as it would to close a vent in the front. It's not unlike grabbing your standard second stage and putting it in your mouth. The reg snaps and locks in place.

I'd love if the OTS rep here could provide some better close up pictures of the mask front and back so I can show my guys, this is a very interesting development you've got going on there.

Still working on the production images....as the straps and buckles are being modified slightly. In the mean time, here are a couple more pics....

First off my disclaimer... I think OTS is great. I have been diving their gear with my PSD team and it has performed flawlessly. Mike P. came out and did our first demo and John H. did our inservice on our gear and our Technician class. Both great guys with a great product.

I just had to poke a little fun at some very interesting pictures I recently found on their website. See attached. Craigs posting is pretty clear that the Guardian was not developed to be directly marketed to PSD divers but rather the sport market. Guess that did not last very long. But I am sure that it does not come as a big suprise to the PSD here. Pretty shameless as the even matched the colors of the dry suits. Yeah come on like that is REALLY important to us PSD. Matching and looking good come on... Just kidding guys keep up the great work and get that mask out soon so we can try it out!!

As the original poster indicated, we pre-announced our new FFM at DEMA. We are very excited with how well it was received and availability is targeted for 2nd Quarter of 2008. We wanted to use DEMA to talk with prospective customers, get their feedback, and incorporate it into the final product.

As with any new 'pre-release', a few misconceptions exist and the product is going through a few minor tweaks (like changing the mask strap material's elasticity and adding a clear skirt).

OTS' Guardian FFM is targeted the Sport Market and as such is not competing with the AGA. We did this by creating a smaller oral nasal pocket and double face seals to better fit smaller faces as well as more aggressive pricing. We will only be offering a standard "semi-positive" pressure regulator, not a positive pressure regulator and our skirt material will only be made of silicone. We basically looked at all of the FFMs on the market and incorporated, modified, and added features that best served the sport market.

We have been developing this mask with Interspiro's knowledge that we are targeting the sport diving market; it does not infringe on any patents; and we expect to continue to sell the Interspiro Divator "AGA", Mantis, and Kirby-Morgan FFMs as well.

Currently, the standard features include:
  • OTS' Ambient Breathing Valve (ABV)
  • removable 2nd stage for easier cleaning and storage -- can't be used w/o mask
  • a double face seal and a slightly smaller oral nasal cavity, fitting most small and large faces
  • 2nd stage comes off the right shoulder and uses a standard LP hose (included)
  • comes with OTS' new padded mask storage bag
  • skirt colors: blue, high-viz yellow, blue, and clear; regulator and frame colors: black, blue, red, and pink
  • includes a communications port for easy installation of OTS' communications equipment
We are exploring additional features as well as working with other manufacturers to incorporate their equipment to make it even more attractive to sport divers.

Having dived the mask myself, I can attest to its comfort and fit.

As for pictures, in addition to the ones posted SB, we should have more available shortly. We will be launching a completely new website in the next few weeks. So check our FORUM here on SB and/or our website to learn more.

Kind of a SWAT type marketing strat...... ;-)

I am interested in them, since the maintainence kits are half of the AGA kit, but I don't see us replacing our AGA's in the near future... Aga's showing no sign of their age (7+ years).

The masks are shipping!!!
