hi all,

I've just bought a second hand Prodigy - did 3 dives with it yesterday, no problems at all (apart from figuring out the 1 button control worked :blinking: )

But this morning when I work up it was still switched on, and the battery is flat. It's incredibly humid here in north Queensland this time of year (90%+ relative humidity), and it rained heavily in the night.

So my question is this: would the high humidity have prevented the computer from switching itself off? Or is the thing faulty?

cheers,
Rob

Rob. Ive had this same computer for many many years. It worked flawlessly for many years... I once had the same problem as you described. I put in a fresh battery and whola prob went away... try that. see what happens

the batteries were new, but they did come from the local shop so they might have been out of date. I'll give it a go next weekend with fresh batteries.

thanks for the reply

Hi I have just bought a set of good regs with the prodigy with it, when activated under water it does the test the switches off, I have replaced with new batteries. any ideas before putting in for an expensive service?

, when activated under water it does the test the switches off,...
By this do you mean that you wait until submerged before activating the computer??

Many dive computers do a self check and calibration upon startup. They check the current pressure and use that as 0' depth. If you are more than a couple feet underwater, the increased pressure will be high enough that in the self check the sensor reading will be so far off that the computer decides the sensor has failed and it shuts off.

Normally, you should activate the computer BEFORE submerging.
