Second is it is hard to get it to sync up. I have to put it right next to the transmitter to get it to work. This is only an issue when I am away from the transmitter for a long period of time and forget to sync it back up before getting in the water. Once in the water I can't get it to sync back up. My arm isn't long enough to get it close enough to the transmitter to sync it.

All i need to do is to purge some air from my reg and the d9 will sync with the transmitter 5-6 feet away after away for a long period of time.

Before you buy, consider the Aeris Epic (or its sister, the Oceanic Atom). The display is more clear than my full sized Uwatec. I have used it on 12 dives and haven't had any problems linking to the transmitter. It automatically links after you pressurized the regs... and if you walk away, it relinks automatically. I like the liberal algorithm... and I like the functionality... now to find a buddy who has one so I can use the 'buddy pressure check'... he he.

oh, and the Aeris was considerably less expensive.

Regarding Aqualung/Sunnto products warranty. I have an Apeks Reg and Octo and 2 Suunto computers, a Vyper and a Cobra and a Balance BCD. All purchased from an authorized dealer. Only the reg and BCD registered initially.

I have yet to be asked for a registration or proof of purchase whenever I take my gear to be serviced at different dealers. And I always get charged for labor only, free parts. How do they know if it's purchased from a grey market source or not w/o the registration? Or are they just giving me the benefit of the doubt?

Sorry for the hijack =)

Wow! I don't check the board for a couple of days, and come back to alot of great info. Thanks gang! My first watch was a VT pro. It did great for it's first couple of dives. One day I did a dive to 110ft and all was well. On the second dive of the day, I checked my watch around 15ft and it was filled with water. I bought it locally from scubatoys and they set it up, so I never had a reason, nor did I open it before the dives. Anyway I took it back to scubatoys, they remembered me as a customer and without hesitation replaced it with an atmos elite. (why I like buying from my lds) The atmos is a great watch, easy to read, handles depth no problem, etc. The problem I have, is it randomly loses sync with the tank transmitter. And I do mean random! I figured going with the suunto, supposedly being the pinnalcle of over-engineering, that I would not have a sync problem. Of course I'm a little concerned after reading the post about this very issue. Hopefully it is just a settings issue like another post suggested. Anway thanks for posting Brett. I had been looking at your website concerning the d9. And thanks again, for all the responses.

With Suunto hoseless links, it's usually the setup stage that can be problematic due to a quirk in how it's supposed to be set up. Once you've established a link and started diving there's no problem.

You can avoid this quirk altogether by getting into a good routine. Always pair the computer/transmitter right before you don your gear, not as you initially set it up.
The reason being with the latter there is a chance you might walk away before donning the gear, and if you stay away for more than several minutes you may need to resync, which you will invariably not remember to check.

When I first got the Vytec a few years ago I had a handful of dives where things didn't quite work out, but once I got into this routine early on it's been entirely problem free.

I own a D9 which I purchased around christmas of 06 I think it is a great computer, with a good log program for the laptop or desktop computer. I haven't had any trouble with the size of the display or the compass working well. As far as "having to put the computer on an exact point on your wrist to see anything at all" well it is just a dive computer and all you have to do in the middle of the dive if you can't see it is MOVE THE COMPUTER a little. doesn't seem hard to me.

...only knock is digital compass (good on land rubbish on water).
Could you please expand on that? I have problems with the D9 compass underwater, but I can't figure out if it's my fault...

In my case, I can't keep the compass "ON" continuously while underwater in Dive Mode... It's a PITA...

What problems have you experienced?

Did you try Blue Dolphin Scuba in Frisco?

Richieg,
Have you found a D-9 yet? If not, look at Scuba Diving School of Fort Worth. They carry the Sunnto D9 and are a LDS of the product.
