Hello,

I have a chance to visit Japan next May with my partner and we are planning 6 days in ishigaki with 5 full days of diving.

I’m having a really hard time picking an accommodation + scuba diving centre combination.

Option 1 - Prime Scuba + ANA Intercontinental: the pros are that prime has an incredible reputation and takes you to many different dive sites not just the kabira area. They offer nitrox as well. The ANA is just opposite. Cons: I really don’t like these huge eyesores type resorts and it’s quite built up around there so no scenic views and walks in nature.

Option 2 - A bit out of budget but second option would be Club Med Kabira + Eurodivers. Pros are the area, it just looks stunning around there with a beautiful beach and so much more greenery. Kabira bay next door. Cons: again, huge resort that’s family focused and I hate activities / animation and crowds. Eurodivers looks good but I’m afraid they only do local dive sites?

Option 3 - stay at a guesthouse in Kabira (Lulaliya), dive with Viking Scuba. Pros: beautiful walkable scenery all around, little restaurants and cafes for eating, more tranquillity? Cons: a bit more remote, modest accommodation and Viking Scuba is small and I think they also only dive locally and have no nitrox.

I feel like I’m probably over thinking this a lot since we plan to basically head out and dive 3 times a day for 5 days so we only really need a place to come to, shower, eat and relax in the evenings and have a good nights sleep. But I have fomo on the more beautiful areas of the island if we stay near Ishigaki city. If anyone has experience of diving with any of these operations please let me know what you enjoyed!! I’m also thinking that perhaps with prime scuba we would get to enjoy some of the islands scenery and nature during surface intervals.

Thank you :)

Not sure which date you will leave for but the beginning of May is the golden week in Japan and the price can be quite expensive.

I am also interested on the response on accommodation.
From what I had read, Prime Scuba offers FREE pick up within the city and there is a list of hotels in its web site.
Golden week is from 29th Apr to 06th May in 2026.

Hey we will be going at the very end of May, avoiding Golden week like the plague haha! In the end we have booked ANA Intercontinental (bay wing) and booked 5 days of diving with Prime. They were quick to reply and just seemed like the easiest option.

It would be worth hiring a car when you are there as Ishigaki is a beautiful island and nice to explore outside of diving

5 full days of diving in a 6 days trip where do you think the OP has the time to explore the island?

Ah I wish we could but we will have to see the island from the boat! Unfortunately we are restricted with time as we’re coming from 2 weeks on mainland Japan and we have a wedding to attend in the middle :)
