I have recently read where accidentally breathing with nose a bit will cause leaks. I can dive in a pool and such, no leaks. Longer deeper saltwater dives I always have a leak. I figured it was my laugh lines, but I wonder if it might just be occasional nose breath. Will test out soon, if that is it I might have single-handedly boosted the mask market for no reason:-)

Thanks, I am just going to be aware of it and not do it.

Perhaps easier said than done. Good luck.

I'm aware that I'm a nose breather - I can't seem to fully control it. It made my initial dives awful, until we figured out the problem and changed my mask. I was lucky, my instructor had a spare valved mask he lent me.

Thanks, my dives are not awful, just need to clear water out from time to time when on longer more physical dives. I don’t think it will be a big adjustment.

Me, too. It happens.

I had a really weird thing happen on one--and only one--of my dives. It may have been around my 1,000th or so. I realized during the dive that I was exhaling out of my nose a lot. I honestly could not stop doing it for quite a while. Then it stopped, and everything was back to normal.

That tends to happen to me on some dives and not the others. I think that strap position and the reg mouthpiece have much more to do with it than nose breathing: the latter can fog the mask (unless you're using seadrops latinum) but I have hard time seeing how it would be causing leaks, exactly.

And yes: I do breathe, or at least exhale, through the nose all the time.
