Diving Cozumel week of June 8, 2025

Here are some diving photos from Cozumel the week of June 8, 2025.

Weather was hot, currents were mild but did switch around for short periods of time, and less divers on the reefs.

We dove from the Palancars to the end of San Francisco wall this time. We dove Casa Blanca (I don’t think the house is white anymore) and is south of Cedral Wall. Faster current but lots of turtles and nurse sharks.

Water temps were warm. Vis was down – lots of shrimp and other floating debris. Lot of backscatter. Partly cloudy which affected photo exposures.

Lots of blue chromis, creole wrasse, grunts and schoolmasters. A few free swimming green moray eels, mid-size hawksbill turtles, and a couple of green turtles.

All photos were taken with a WA lens and dome port. I am using close focus WA for some shots but it is no substitute for macro as evidenced by the nudibranch and small fish.

Dale, I always enjoy your pics. Thanks for posting.

Makes me have a bit of FOMO, but I’ll be back soon.

Great pics, I was there the same time. Columbia had less clarity but Palancar caves was much clearer, I thought overall the reefs looked great compared to my last few trips.

The reefs look decent. A lot less hydroids than in the past and lots of small fish. I even saw a few large black groupers lately. Lately quite a few bait balls near shore on many days.

I agree, was so nice to see bigger groupers. I am not as knowledgeable as you are , but have been diving there a long time and was happy to see it.

I always struggle to push my f-stop to 6.3 or 7.2 so I can bring in that far background color & images. But WOW you nailed it perfectly. I envy how you got it done because your picts are balance lighted and colorful !!
