Thanks for the great report and the pics - one of my absolute favorite reef dwellers is the French Angelfish...

My wife and I have similar requirements since she is a non-diver as well. (I do as you did: dive with a camera so that she can see a bit of what I see) I've always wondered about the quality of both the Mayan Princess resort and their dive operation - nice to read that you had a positive experience there.

A question about the dive op - when the weather forced you to the south side did they take you around the point on the boat? Or did you go by land transfer to a dock on the other side of the island?

@therookie, I also dove with Mayan Divers in April for 4 days. One day we bussed over and dove Mary’s Place and Connie’s Dream, on other days we boated around to Pablo's Place/ Mangrove Bight and again to Pablo’s Place/Pirates Cove.

Resort shuttle, (land transfer)

Boat takes hours in the chop. Bus takes 15-20 minutes. They normally move the boats after the afternoon dive based on the forecast for tomorrow.

Yep, the bus is what the shop I normally use in West Bay does (and exactly what you said about moving the boats the day before depending on the next day's forecast). I was curious what the Mayan Princess did - looks like it depends on what their dive plan is

How were meals handled? Inside restaurant? Poolside? Damp swim trunks OK?

I've done a couple of stints at AKR and I suspect that I won't like the new fancy schmancy restaurant. I be at a dive resort, I spend my whole trip in swim turnks and a tee or a rash guard shirt and flips. Often wet. And I don't have the inclination to go shower, dry off, and re-dress in dry clothes to go to lunch and 3-4 hours alter do it all again for dinner in the gussied up chow hall.

On the diving side - you talked about boat loading. How is Nitrox handled? Do you test and label your bottle onshore? Or does you do your testing onboard pre-splash?

@OMyMyOHellYes

Have you been to CoCoView? Same diving, different atmosphere.

At Mayan Princess I did (2) tank AM dives and (1) tank PM dives, then spent the evening with my wife socializing.

At CCV, I did (2) tank AM dives, (2) tank PM dives, and shore walk-ins for the "front yard" whenever I wanted. There's basically nothing to do at CCV except dive and hang out with other divers. The food's fine, and Willie runs a decent bar - but the focus is DIVING.

Yes. I've done both.
