After reading a few positive threads, I ordered a AOI UWL-03 Wide Angle Lens for my GoPro Hero 11. I'm hoping it will elevate the video quality to something I'm happy with. So anyway, I assume it just bolts on to a tray? There's a hundred YouTube videos on how to mount it on the grip supplied, but not a tray. Also, any tips for using the lens in terms of GoPro settings? Cheers.

I had issues trying to mount mine on a tray. The normal mounting bolt I use with my camera housing was too long so I ended up using a couple of rubber washers to fill the gap. The single bolt acted like a pivot point also, so the GoPro would turn if I bumped it.
I did use the lens, on the grip, the last time I was snorkeling with juvenile whale sharks in Mexico. I liked how close I was able to get and still get most of the shark in the video.

Thanks for the reply. I used the screw that came with the grip to fix it to the tray. I also had to use some washers to fill the gap. I can see how it would pivot, but there is quite a lot of the base in contact with the tray and I've locked it down tight with two spring washers, so hopefully it will stay put.

This is what I use. I ordered it from Backscatter with my UWL-03 (aka Backscatter Sharp Wide Lens)

Just used the lens for the first time. What a difference! Images are sharp throughout. Feel like I've been using a GoPro with one hand tied behind my back all these years. If you use a GoPro underwater and want to take good video, buy one now!

When I get around to editing some video, I'll post a link.

Here's a short test with the lens on a GoPro Hero 11 plus video lights. 4K/50fps. Linear FOV. Native white balance. I have done very little editing.

Seriously beautiful!! Did you play with colors, WB, or exposure in post?

(I know nothing about video, just still photo)

Not really. A little saturation enhancement in the first clip due to shooting in the native mode and toned things down a little in the last clip because I used too much light.

What app do you use?

I tried to use DaVinci for the first time. The interface is horrible, but I got it to do what I wanted to do, then it kept crashing, so reverted to iMovie which has some limited options for colour editing. You get what you pay for I suppose.
