Hello,

I'm currently on the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand. Looking to do a couple of dives..

This will be my 7th dive, and third diving trip over three years.

The weather had turned funny. Wind is at 15 knots, swell 0.4-0.7 and wave intervals is at 3 seconds.

The longtsil boats have stopped going out.

I've got a private dive tour booked, who's ensuring me it will be fine for novice divers. But I know SEA is notoriously for not canceling dives.

Any ideas or advise? Is this typically to choppy?

One thing to remember, you can always call a dive even before getting into the water.
This is only your 7th dive since you got your certification? Is that in three years?

So if you go out and are not happy with the conditions simply do not let anyone pressure you to do the dive. Even if you get in the water and decide ok this is not for me, end the dive.

They want paying before the dive. So it would mean losing £250.

Im fairly confident but my wife isn't.. Is this sort of swell and wind speed normal for diving?

250 pounds? 3 dives each for two people? Yes in South East Asia you can get poor weather and fast currents and swells..

I actually go for diving with conditions worse than what you write but thats because I want this type of diving. Not for those without experience. If your wife is not comfortable then maybe take your 250 pounds and treat her out to something she would like. Yeah a private boat going out when others are not does not give one a lot of confidence.

Also on a small boat the ride can be not so comfortable in swells. Would you or you wife get sea sick?

That's a lot of wind and short period chop is uncomfortable. I wouldn't take my boat out.
Stay on shore, save your money.

2 dives each, plus a refresher session as its been a year since we last dived.

You are right. Best to save my money.. The wife gets sea sick in calm water, so I'd imagine she'll fair worse in this.

I'm with you, I'd like to dive in this sort of weather but maybe I'll get a few more dives under my belt first.

I didn't even read any of the other posts...

You are clearly not happy with the weather conditions. You are seeing signs that the locals are not going out.
Stay out of the water. This isn't your day.

I'm sure someone will say it's no big deal, go for it. They are not you, they are not where you are at, they probably have a lot more experience with these conditions than you do.

If you have to ever ask this question, then the answer is probably don't go. I have always used that as a good guide.
