We are planning a trip to Bali later this year and are two novice divers. Appreciate any recommendations of locations and dive shops to make our experience safe and memorable. I have seen reviews of Scuba Junkie and Legend diving appreciate any advice if you have used these dive shops or others

My trip was in 2018 and I dived at Gili Trawangan with manta-dive.com, this was a night dive to see the tiny, colourful Mandarin fish. . Then used Dive Concepts on Lembongan for Mangrove Reef. Also a dive at Manta point . It's a feeding station and to rest there for 45 minutes with circling creatures above is magical and unforgettable. Also dived Crystal bay at Penida but didn't note the operator although the boat was Black Mamba . all safe and very satisfactory.

Hey EmmCee, Im from Singapore and have dived in Bali much since its really close to me. I recommend going to Nusa Penida. Theres manta point with manta rays and also consider liasing with the dive guide if youre going in Sept to find the Mola Mola (Sunfish). It is one of the most famous dive sites in Bali.

However, since youre going with 2 new divers, consider going to Tulamben first to familiarise before going to Nusa. Conditions are easier here with no sudden surges or high waves that Nusa has. Make sure to visit the USAT Liberty wreck and Coral Garden. Night dives at the wreck usually can find Large Barracudas.

I dived both with Pebble and Fins and Nusantara Diving before. Both I would recommend. The latter is cheaper than the former for their packages.

Do you know where you are staying yet? That would help in giving you recommendations. That being said, I dove with 2 very novice friends a couple years ago and Home - Underwater Tribe took amazing care of them when we had really horrible and potentially dangerous conditions. I was so impressed with how well they treated these divers and would highly recommend their operation. There Captain got us safely back in port after conditions really deteriorated. Side note: they also went out of there way to make sure I was having fun as well. A+ in my book. Check them out for sure!

Happy to help, check Google reviews of Prana Dive and see what others have to say

If you use the search function you will find many posts about diving in Bali and the different dive shops used and where people stayed.

Lot of choices, but I'll make it easy for you; Tulamben at least for a week just to experience variety of diving in Bali, surely not Raja Ampat or Komodo but still nice wreck, coral, muck/macro, wall, drift diving ect;
Goodgle map the area to see the accommodation available.
Get private guide for both of you, in fact many Tulamben operator offer 1 : 2 guide dive ratio, where you can discuss with your guide to to suit your diving style/preference. You can dive 2 - 3 - or 4 dives a day if you like it.
