Hi
@Wallowa
I only started diving 54 years ago. Many things have changed, we now have a considerable amount of information available to us to aid in safely diving. I don't know what computer you used to dive, but your Peregrine has most of the information available to me on my Teric, both onboard and in the Shearwater Cloud download.
The Shearwater Cloud graph below shows a typical SE Florida no stop drift dive. It illustrates the point made by
@inquis regarding the final ascent from the safety stop. The GF does not start to increase until I reached 26 ft on the ascent. The GF was only 17% at the end of the safety stop and then blossomed to 62% during the final ascent. My final ascent was over a minute, a rate of about 15 ft/min. Now that you have ascent/descent rate on your home screen center slot, you might consider adding SurfGF to the right slot, I think you might find it very interesting.

My wife and I lived in Portland from 1980-8 and were avid backpackers. One of our very favorite trips was to the Eagle Cap Wilderness. I have been thinking about that ever since I saw your username. My first certification was with LA County, 1970, small world
Take care, good diving
