"DAN Insurance worthless?"

The evidence appears to be that Woodie received over $25,000 of reimbursement in less than a week from DAN (according to DAN's public statement).

DAN insurance, even the highest level, costs much less than $1,000. Woodie has been insured with DAN much less than 25 years. So he has receive many times the value he paid for.

Whoever wrote that thread title should be ashamed of themselves. Board moderators should change it to something less offensive. How was such a title even allowed in the "Dive Medicine Q&A" forum in the first place?

I tend to agree, at least a change to "Is DAN Insurance Worthwhile?"

To that, my answer is yes, even having seen some not great responses from DAN over the years but dozens of great outcomes from them helping divers personally witnessed going back 3 decades. Non witnessed likely hundreds of stories of DAN coming thru.

At less than $200/yr for me and my family I find it extremely valuable and worthwhile. I spent $700 on accident and critical illness insurance last year that refused a claim that was borderline. I still kept it this year because one ER trip more than pays for it and I have teenagers.

I dive with minimal deco but the potential always exists. This is especially true when with a buddy and the potential for them having an incident that causes me to take a hit.

DAN stepped up here after a breakdown in policies caused public outcry. They are an amazing organization. I'm still waiting for Woody and Gus to step up and acknowledge their absolute stupidty that caused this string of events.

If the ClickBait title of this thread is allowed to stand, the censorship rules on posts should also be suspended, and the censored comments restored.
Given all the posts here that seemed to want to blame EVERYTHING on Gus and Woody without reservation while calling them liars, up to and including some REALLY far reaches that seemed more a reaction to them not liking Gus and Woody's online persona, the fact that Woody is "comfortable" ($) and maybe some "green monster" effect going on... maybe give them a thread where they can complain about Divetalk, and a clickbait title there would be fair play... :D:wink::popcorn:

After reading DAN’s statement, I’m not totally sure how much would have changed if they had called DAN immediately after Woody was out of the water, showing extreme exhaustion, and on O2. Would DAN have been able to find a plane 3 hours earlier? I don’t know.

I am also surprised that those personal attack comments were not moderated, especially in this thread that is about DAN, and not even accident analysis

Actually, if the Dive Talk video is to be believed. They had already committed to reimbursement before the public outcry. They had already admitted to Woodie that there had been a policy breakdown.

EDIT:
(I have been told that I misremember the video and they did state they had been reimbursed so the following statement is inappropriate)
According to the DAN statement, it appears the the reimbursement actually occurred before the video was even posted. Which makes the video even more inflammatory/defamatory since they didn't state that.

There is a difference between working hours and after hours.

I suspect there is a certain lack of urgency with DAN's contracted provider with regards suspected type 2 DCS. They are looking at it as "is this person going to die if not immediate" and maybe don't feel the urgency of someone that is while possibly facing death, is certainly facing lasting and permanent neurological damage that can leave people in a wheelchair, unable to control bowels or bladder, sexual dysfunction, ongoing dizziness, vision problems, nausea, headaches, etc. The sooner they get in a chamber the more likely they are to resolve or be mitigated as much as is possible.

Hopefully as DAN takes over that function they are fully aware and act with the urgency that would lead to the best outcomes for those impacted.
