There has been lots of discussion in other threads regarding industry change.

The dive industry has remained a pretty consistent overall business model for years now.

Sooooo, how do you delivery the diving experience without getting in the water?

Maybe the hay day of diving is behind us. I used to watch the other recreations industries like golf, bicycling, running, tennis, roller blading, etc. go through gyrations that make the diving industry look tame. While we never had the major run-up we were very stable until now. I am sure we are sharing the economic downturn with other recreational activities.

I wasn't making suggestions, I was simply throwing out some food for thought...

But...I argue that we need to deliver the diving experience before they even consider getting certified. Then they will see why the should be.
