Yes I had heard that and presumably the high population density enhances the spread of disease? Belize has the lowest population density in Central America so I would presume a safer place to be if you want to avoid pestilence (and terrorists).

Did you know the US is more populous than Belize is
 
If you ever take a look at the US Embassy in Belmopan you would think Belize must be full of terrorists. The place is built like a brick fortress, with a high security fence all the way around and US Marines patrolling the grounds. No photos allowed.

There is something fishy about that. The old embassy in Belize City was made of wood. Not the most secure. But this new one seems like it's a data collection point for Central America or something. The area for visa application and interview is about 3% of the total area of that place.
