I dove with a set of steel LP108 doubles for the first time with my Zeagle Tech/backplate setup. For the most part it worked out pretty well with a few minor issues to resolve. The rig is very rigid with pretty much the same feel as diving a single tank.

At first, I had forgotten to release the bladder stays and so I was having very hard time staying upright. Once I figured that out, life was much better but not the perfect balance I have previously enjoyed. I was still a bit tank heavy, which my buddy (an experienced tech diver) said was normal for such heavy tanks and could be trimmed out with some lead. I was wearing a 7mm F/J wetsuit with no lead and the effect was less apparent at depth, so I’m thinking he was probably right.

I plan to dive this rig with AL80s until the spring when I go completely over to the dark side, but I’d be interested to know if other divers have had balance problems with steel tanks using BP/W or back inflation BC’s.
