I am considering buying one of these BC's as a lighter weight alternative to my current BC. The main difference that I am seeing in the two is that the Stiletto has dumpable weight pockets in the front and the Stiletto costs $200 more.

Here are my questions.
1. What are the other main differences? I just want a light-weight, tropical water, travel BC.
2. If I only wear 6-8 lbs of lead, am I really going to miss the front dumpable pockets that I have today that allows me to split that weight up in 4 pockets (2 on tank, 2 in front of bc)?
3. Anything else that I haven't thought about? I feel like I must be missing something here since one is so much cheaper.

Thanks!

I thought the Stiletto used a heavier Nylon. The D RIngs may be different in number and material. Pockets may be slightly different size and shape as well. I maybe wrong on the last 2 things though. I think the Scout is a single piece construction where the Stiletto is a two piece. You can order it all one size, but can get the two pieces in different sizes. My Ranger is a XL shoulder with a L waist. This way they can offer a more custom fit. If you have a slightly different body type this will help. I'm 6'4" so I needed the extra length, but I needed an average waist band not the XL. I can say that due to the fit, I would not give up my Ranger for anything other than possibly a Stiletto with the same sized parts. The Stiletto was my main choice and this was one of the main reasons besides the dumpable weights. My LDS had the Ranger at the same price. I think I'm gonna put a Scout/Stiletto bladder on my Ranger harness.

sks,

I got a new Scout this summer but I've never seen a Stiletto. You'd probably be best off calling Scubatoys with your questions. As far as I know you can get the modular sizing. I got mine with a 35 lb wing since I dive a lot of wet suit up here in Michigan. I'm not sure which material mine is but it sure seems plenty sturdy to me. I'm using 12# on a weight belt, 8# divided up in the rear pockets and 1# on the carry handle hooked over my tank yoke. The rear pockets are dumpable but a bit hard to reach.

I would stay stick with the Scout. If you are just using it as a lightweight tropical travel BC the Scout will serve your needs just fine! I even used one for a regular diver for many dives and it was a great little BC! I have one for sell too if you are interested in the forum on here :)

I have a Stiletto that I like a lot. Haven't dived with a Scout. The Stiletto has a few more amenities and its a heavier material. The Scout may pack a bit smaller although the Stiletto is pretty compact.

It's only 2 pounds positive too. Trims out nicely. Size wise it sits between the Scout and the Ranger. Looks good!
