Zeagle Systems Inc. is recalling 931 1st stage scuba regulators sold between 1/20/2003 & 5/19/2003. These regulators should be taken to an autherized Zeagle dealer for imediate repair.

The 1st stage regulators affected are

*Flathead Six s/n F001391 to F001476
*50D s/n B003315 to B003652
*DS-IV s/n A001352 to A001571
*Envoy s/n C00117 to C001403

The Serial number is stamped on ea. 1st stage body. ***Zeagle regulators that have been serviced since 1/20/2003 may also be affected.***

These 1st stage regulators may have a defective high-pressure seat that could cause the 1st stage to overpressurize. If this occurs, the air supply to the diver could be interrupted, making it impossible for the diver to breathe from the regulator. This type of failure is most likely to occur upon initial pressurization of the regulator and is unlikely to occur underwater.

Owners of these regulators should take them to an autherized Zeagle dealer for a free inspection & repair. CAll (800)771-5568 or contact any autherized Zeagle dealer for more info.

Here's some other Scubaboard threads on the issue:

http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28175

The cause of the problem, as I have heard, is that Zeagle received some HP seats that had been dyed with a coloring agent. Unfortunately, this agent made the HP seats more brittle. Given the harsh environment caused by the high pressure and low temperature of air coming from the tank, the HP seat can fail. The failure mode has been seen in the normal HP-related problems like creep (free-flowing second, abnormal IP) all the way to total failure of the first stage to deliver air.

The problem affects the regulators listed, and Zeagle also included the defective parts in annual service kits sold to dealers, so any Zeagle reg serviced in the last 6-9 months potentially has a bad HP seat...

To be honest, I don't know why these recall notices aren't sticky'ed by the mods so that everyone is sure to see them...
