The Ranger is a very good high quality BC and Zeagle has top notch customer service.
While I hardly ever dive mine I still keep it around because it's a good BCD.

Personally I prefer the stability and streamlining of a BP/W, my ss BP and 45 lbs wing
actually weight 3.5 lbs less than the Ranger, and of course have less inherent boyancy.

But of you're set on a BCD you will be hard pressed to find a better one or a better manufacturer.

Hi. Thanks for the info. I'll have to research the backplate wing system. I contacted zeagle this morning about removing the cummerbund and having my ranger modified by them so that the shoulder straps are sewn directly onto the ranger (versus the cummerbund). The person with the answers was at a meeting so I left a message. I'll let you know what zeagle has to say and how much, just in case others may be interested. Anyone have any experience with moving the optional removable rear mounted weight system from the ranger lower tank strap to the upper tank strap so as to perhaps shift center-of-gravity (cg) for possible better horizontal mobility uw? If not, maybe I'll give that a try. How much weight do those of you with the optional rear weight system actually use (of your total)? Thanks again for the assistance. Mach

If you want a Ranger style BC, but do not want the waist panels, you should just order the Tech BC. It has two waist straps and no waist panels.

If you do not need the 65lbs of lift that the Tech has, you can get it with the same 44lb bladder that the Ranger uses.

Also, it will be a much less expensive option than having a Ranger custom made....trust me... ;)

You're right, I'm sure that a custom made one would cost a mint. I bought my ranger several months ago at a dive shop in Jupiter, FL that was changing to a different brand (mgt decision), much to the disappointment of much of their staff. It was new with alot of the extras thrown in (rear weight system, utility pocket, gear bag, etc) for free -- total cost $250, which seemed like an excellent deal at the time, so I jumped on it. So, that said, if the price is right from zeagle to have the straps sewn in, maybe I'll go for it. Thanks again -- Mach

I just was washing my gear and I think the only way to do this is to mount the pockets upside down, or you can just get some weight pouches, such as xs scuba and mount them on the top cam band.

Love my Ranger! "Trapped air" and everything! heh-heh...

Thanks for the good info. I'll give the rear weight system upper tank belt configuration a try myself and let you know how it works out. With regard to the shoulder straps, here's what I have come up with and proposed to zeagle: given that the grommets are still there on the BC (the grommets used to hold the cummerbund on) after removing the cummerbund, why not just use them to connect two new lower straps? So I asked zeagle if they'd just sell me two lower shoulder straps with grommets installed (with correct spacing). That way I can just connect the new lower straps to the same grommet holes used previously by the cummerbund. With this system, I can always return to the original configuration. I am still awaiting a return call and email from zeagle, and will keep you posted on the results.

Who did you leave a mesage with? Jim Wittsruck or I normally get the "I have an idea!!" calls - yet neither of us have a voice mail from you...

Also, IF we can do something like this, you will have to go through a dive shop to order it, as we do not sell factory direct. Keep in mind that we are in the busiest part of our year, so making custom parts will either A) not be cheap - or B) not be quick. Not trying to disuade you - just telling you upfront. We can do anything, if you have enough time and/or money!! :D
