They have padding and a cummerbund, so they're not very streamlined and they trap air.

Hey Walter... actually the Ranger does not come with padding, you can add a lumbar pad if you want, and I'm not sure how a cummerbund would trap air....

The bladder on a Ranger is a bit large for most peoples needs, and that is why I brought out the Brigade - but even the large bladder won't trap air if you have your positioning down. I dive with a ranger or a brigade with 6 lbs of lead with a shorty... so I can't be trapping much!

Any reports on the Zeagle Ranger? I've been thinking about getting one.

Love my Ranger!

Highly adjustable, built like a brickhouse, everything I wanted and then some.

Buy it...don't look back!

I just bought the Ranger Limited. Granted I am a new Diver but from what I have read and the people I have talk to it was an easy choice on which BC to buy. Love the versitility it offers and the quality of the product is exceptional. I think it's something that I will be able to use for a very long time and you can't beat the fact that it comes with a lifetime warranty. Anyways, I love mine and at this stage in the game - no regrets.

Good Luck
John

All 3 of my buddies use Rangers and all 3 a very happy. Other than a BP/W, this would be my next choice.

Larry, cummerbunds don't trap air, they add drag. I've never seen a Ranger without the padding, but you see more of them than I do.

No BC will trap air if you have your positioning down, but most divers inflate their BC (not a practice I recommend, but it's extremely common) prior to entry, then to descend, they merely hold up their inflator hose to dump air. In that situation, it will trap air. Leaning forward and to the right, you certainly can dump all the air. Few divers lean forward and to the right, most add lead to compensate because they aren't even aware there is any air trapped.

The ranger from what I've read and heard from 2 friends of mine that dive the ranger is that this is an excellent BC, they are a very tough BC the take a beating. With the BC being designed the way that it is (big and some say bulky) there is all kinds of lift (44 lbs) there is the option of stapping doubles to the BC, or even adding a larger bladder. My one buddy dove doubled up steel 98's last weekend and was very pleased with how the BC handled the extra weight.
Just ensure that this BC is comfortable and will meet your diving needs.

You need to fill out your dive profile, and then give some idea of what kind of diving you intend to do, and where. I have a Brigade, and love it. But if you are only doing tropical diving, and are trying to do "carry-on" baggage, the Ranger is more than you need. In that event, look at the Brigage, or Escape. However, if you will be doing cold water, or anything else where you need the larger lift bladder, you will love the Ranger.
