Pretty sure that I am going to purchase a Zeagle Ranger BC. However, I note that there are two types of integrated weight systems - the "ripcord" where everything drops at once, and the two integrated weight packages.

Any comments on which system might be better?

TNX.

To my knowledge the Ripcord system is the only option available on the Ranger, except for the add-on tank band pouches, and it comes standard. If you're refering to the tank band pouches, they come in several flavors now, those are for trim and not the main weight system. There are also some little yellow insert pockets that are made for the Ripcord system and I highly recommend them, but they are for use with the Ripcord system.

But then again, I haven't paid much attention to the new models, so I guess they could have add another option, however I didn't see mention of it on their website.

When I ordered mine the shop asked which I wanted, I went with ripcord, like just about everyone else I know of. I have not seen one without that. I think the Zeag Concept has the pull out pouches. I also think the Ranger side pockets are only available on the ripcord. I think the overall style of the Ranger lends itself more to the ripcord. On the other hand the pouches are more trim, as the pockets with weights in them stick out a good bit. But then you need to stick a pocket somewhere. One option is a thigh pocket or side/front add on pocket.

I also recommend the yellow weight pouches, a bit of a rip off, ha ha, as they are like 30 bux for the pair, (more in store, less online) and they are just nylon pouches. I did not have them at first, and then noticed my 2lb. soft weight sitting on the bottom as it escape from the bc. Alas, I bought them, much more convenient.

One drawback of the ripcord is that all the weight goes at once as opposed to the pouches that can be done one at a time.

You can also get 2 types of rear trim weight pouches, some that go on the bc, and can be ditched separately I believe, and then a cheaper tank band trim.

Tommy described my Ranger as well.

Like WarHammer, I haven't heard of any different system of dumping your weights other than the Ripcord systm. Unless you count unzipping the weight pocket and dumping the weights "manually".

About the only "new" modification I have seen on the Rangers is a dump valve on the right-hand wing (saw it on Zagnut's).

I saw a Zeagle ranger on display at Pacific Wilderness in San Pedro, CA with two pull-out integrated weight setups, instead of the ripcord.

So, I know they are out there and available.

So instead of the red handle on the left side of the BC that pulls the threaded cord that allows the weight to fall out of the bottom there's another mechanism (like velcro slide in weights maybe?) to release? are you sure it was a Ranger?

Yes, the yellow pouches are a good idea if you have several small weights. You might be able to find them used. I bet that any little mesh bag that is strong enough to hold the weight would work.

And... get the Saddle Strap!

If you look on page 14 of the Zeagle printed catalog, you can see a picture of the optional Pull-out weight system.

However, you lose the secondary side pockets that are over the weight compartments of the ripcord system.

I'm thinking of trying the Saddle Strap too. Through trial and error, I found that I was pulling the shoulders too tight, causing the Ranger to ride a bit high on my torso and not perform as good as when it rides lower.

Now I've found the "sweet spot" so the cumberbund is actually at the top of my hips, and not across my gut, and the Ranger fits much more comfortably, and my "orientation buoyancy" has improved.

But the ranger can still ride up during the dive requiring me to "hitch" it downward occastionally. So I think a saddle strap would help.

And besides, I'm in Texas....so having a "diving saddle" makes sense!! :)

The Ranger has the "Ripcord" Standard, but it can be fitted with the velcro pouches as described.
The "Concept 2" (newer model) also can be fitted with either set up. the "Pro" comes with the Ripcord, and the "Sport" comes with the velcro slide in pockets.
I have the concept 2 Pro,with the optional yellow pockets-$30 well spent- and so far, I love it.

hmmm. I looked at the zeagle online .pdf catalog & the resolution is crummy, I can't tell how they are supposed to work. That's an interesting idea though, I would like to see how it works.
